I think I can bring some proof about how little our kids in school know about our history and why they need to know some of it. The NEP put out some test scores recently about what various age groups of students now about our history and it is sickening. However, how can they now anything they aren't being taught?

It is getting sadder and sadder all the time and it is not the fault of the kids but damned sure is of the schools and the education we provide for those kids.
Don't forget the parents Roy..they complain about the system but don't do anything about..like vote. But, I will bet that we have been dealing with kids...the OP was only 30. He has no idea what he is saying or what he is throwing away and that is our fault (my age group..50plus)...HIS parents.

NOBODY is wearing the flag.

It's anathema to the flag to wear any part of it.

Boxer shorts, bikinis etc.

All foul!

What's your point?

I missed it!

YEP...yes, I think a degree of nationalism is a very wise thing to do. What is so evil about saying ...liberty and justice for ALL?

The lawsuit also challenges a Florida law and a Palm Beach County school board policy mandating that students receive written permission from their parents before declining to recite the patriotic oath.

This seems to me to be typical ACLU challenging of state law and that part of their case should make the whole thing suffer.

Since this was printed in 2005 I would think that the courts have ruled and ruled about this one.
Yes, the suit has been resolved, at least as far as the Florida law is concerned. It was held to be unconstitutional, naturally.

The court also held that the student was entitled to compensatory and punitive damages. Presumably the student would follow this court decision with a civil case against those involved. The complaint also cites in more detail the actual events.

Nobody is against god, they just don't believe in him. It's in the brain, nothing you can do to convince it something is real when your brain just says no. Sorry, but it's not a rebellion against anything.

They are pledging allegience to one of the national symbols of our United States...THE FLAG

Don't care who wrote it..children don't either.
You have never been called called a "commie" by anyone ..at least not in this thread..you may have been called "un-American". Big difference..learn it.

The guy that wrote the Pledge may have been a socialist but he wrote it in an attempt to teach school children and immigrants about patriotism. It was published in a childrens mag in conjunction with the commencement of the national observence of Columbus Day which coincided with the start of the Worlds Columbian Exposition of 1892 in Chicago. That picture of the kids looking like they are giving the Hitler salute..was actually called the Bellamy Salute..started with the palm down but ended with the palm up...it was changed because it did resemble the Hitler Salute.... Why don't you go to wikkipedia and actually read it... The pledge is about the FLAG..it has always been about the FLAG and always will be about the FLAG.
Studied it for years, if you believe he had good intentions to support Freedom and Liberty, I have a flag to sell you.

A Flag is cloth, America represent freedom and individual rights, not group think conformity and nationalism. I have been called a commie in my activism many times.

I imagine the Hitler youth made children feel good about their nation also, does that mean it was OK? Indoctrination is indoctrination.

Look like palms down to me.

Nothing, until you are punishing people who don't say it. I just wish they understood liberty.

How did the kids feel before "under god" was added?
