I believe the right to marry is a civil right and the US Supreme Court was correct in allowing inter-racial marriages in the Loving case.

The rights of a minority group should NEVER, ever, be put to a popular vote.
There's no 'right' to a civil marriage unless the state says it's a right.

The Loving case dealt with discrimination Within the female-male marriage contract. Ssm deals with Broadening the contract. Different.

Words change meaning all the time. We redefined marriage 44 years ago when we allowed mixed races to marry. We redefined marriage when women actually were treated as equals in a relationship instead of property. We redefined marriage when we added a religious element to it, that did not exist before.

Marriage has been redefined countless times, and will continue to be redefined as society continues to change. Language is not static. Stop living in the Dark Ages.

Your opinion has no relevance on civil rights issues. Deal with it, or move to Iran where you can enjoy watching gays be executed.

Why is it heterosexuals are entitled to a special legal entity in our secular, civil law only for them that gives them 1400 civil rights homosexuals can't have? That's incredibly disgusting, incredibly anti-American, and violates our Constitution.
Because right wing conservative "Christians" like Charlotte and Sophiasmommy do not know the first thing about how our government works. They seem to think we're a Christian theocracy where their beliefs trump the legal system.

Do you not understand how our government works? Why do you continue to ignore people who are obviously more educated then you, when they tell you that you do not understand American government or law?

So you would have no problem if 51% of Americans voted to remove all rights from women, and enforce Islamic Sharia law as the law of the land right?

You absolutely hate gays. That is so ridiculously obvious from this thread my dog (avocado) can tell!

It celebrates the dignity and new found freedom of gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgendered to be able to be open about who they are without risk of being harrassed or murdered by people who share your views.

Here's another one..... the equal rights of any minority should NEVER be voted upon by a majority......these things are what the judicial and court system are for!

Upset about New York I assume and needing to vent!
That's the thing...this isn't a civil rights issue.
