I wouldn't broadcast that so much if I were you. After all, your fellow RWs are always complaining about the lazy, immoral louts who pay no federal income tax.
The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. … Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.
Repubs would rather send the economic back into a recession then a single increase to give the country enough time to bring revenue back up. Plus enact all their favored social reforms for the most needy, and cuts to the wealthiest citizens. Just goes to show people who they really work for.
Three reasons
1. They didn't have the balls to stand up to Bush and/or...
2. Some are lying hypocrites who are picking a battle because they hate the president and want to see him a one termer (McConnell and Cantor)
3. We also have the Tea Party fanatics for whom reason is not their strong suit.
I think it's a mixture of all three. I personally think that if Boehner didn't have the tea party caucus to deal with, striking a deal would be a little bit easier--not by much, but it'd be a little easier.
No they have a sudden aversion because they REALLY think they will benefit poltically from any economic problems this country faces.
If the Republicans SERIOUSLY wanted to deal with the deficit they'd be just as eager to close tax loopholes or implement some serious tax reform at they are about cutting government spending. Nobody is serious without reducing the budget deficit without dealing with BOTH SIDES OF THE ISSUE.
That talking point is getting old. Simply put we take in a certain amount of year. Our expenditures should match the amount of revenues. There the deficit is closed
