This is somewhat of an indictment on gay and female soldiers that a midget civilian can get the best of them. I also wonder how they were dressed. Were they dressed in drag is this what we have to look forward to under the repeal of don't ask, don't tell? Bands of soldiers hitting the town in drag.
Did you read the entire article or only the parts you enjoy? The soldiers were outnumbered and ambushed as they were leaving. Their attackers were cowardly animals who only find courage when in a pack that outnumbers their prey.

Oh, and before you post again, look up another famous 5 feet 5 inch tall man named Audie Murphy, the most decorated soldier in World War 2.
Unfortunately, while that should be the case, it doesn't manifest itself that way. No group is deionized more in this country by Evangelical/Fundamentalist Christians than gays.

Yep because we need to punish homosexuals for being born gay by taking away their rights... God forbid we punish the people who commit assault.. let's just punish the victims.
Is it ironic that black people tend to be more homophobic? Absolutely not. Anyone who knows the dynamics a large portion of black people are born and raised into would understand why they tend to be more anti-gay. Religion plays a major factor, as black people by and large are more religious. Another factor is the fact most black people tend to be poorer on average, and anyone should know poorer=higher likelihood for crime. Another factor is the fact that inner-city culture tends to be hyper-masculine and aggressive (including the women), and black people make up a significant portion of inner-cities. Hyper-masculine=hating anything seen as less masculine=stereotype of gays=homophobia.
This isn't a black issue, though. It's a cultural issue, and a horrible one. It's just awful that people can't enjoy themselves without a pack of 12 PEOPLE ganging up and attacking them. How animalistic can a person be? What do they get out of doing things like this? It's so shockingly barbaric. And the complete lack of respect towards those who serve. Such a horrible story.
Anyone who makes excuses for this attack, or says somehow that these soldiers and their friends had it coming to them, is a sick, compassion-less, cruel and hateful individual. 7 innocent people were beaten up by street thugs. Hopefully this trash is arrested and taken off the streets before they commit any other crimes of this nature.
Oh, and to answer the ignorant questions raised, no, the soldiers went to a gay club with friends, and one of the dancers tagged along with them to a taco bar/restaurant.
No, the soldiers weren't in drag. The dancer was dressed in whatever get-up he was in (go-go dancers aren't drag queens BTW), which is what set off the situation.
It was a pack of 12 African-Americans who AMBUSHED 7 people, gay, straight and female. The pack of 12 had WEAPONS. The 7 innocents were going back to their car to avoid the trouble, but the trouble followed them and beat them.
People who aren't in the position to fight mentally aren't going to be prepared to handle a situation where animalistic criminals are coming after them unexpectedly. These cowards attacked them unprovoked when the victims couldn't defend themselves. That's how these thugs fight. They're cowards, they lack self-esteem, they're weak.
