The Dems sold out the American trucker.

From the OP link:

"Transportation secretaries Ray LaHood and Dionisio Perez-Jacome signed the three-year memorandum, which is based on an agreement announced in March by Presidents Barack Obama and Felipe Calderon. "

Another perspective: NAFTA was shoved up our noses by the USA as being imperative to allow the free movement of goods throughout the north american continent. To gain access to the huge U.S. market the rest of us had to "go along".

The deal over the trucking access was signed long ago and was supposed to be implemented by year 2000.

Canadian Trucks have the same emissions requirements as Cali's latest silliness they can think of to stymie small business's. They are also required to undergo mandatory yearly inspections for both saftey AND emissions so no worries from the north regarding tires without tread depth or belching berthas etc..

Now comes the interesting part; Mexico doesn't give a rat's patoot about the safety or emissions of anything with wheels on it, so your country has "volunteered" to foot the bill for their compliance. What's wrong with this picture and, gosh-darn-it how come Canada can't go for a retroactive hand-out? Haaar!

From the same article and a previous post. You should read more before you post blindly.

"Rep. Peter DeFazio, a Democrat from Oregon, introduced a bill Wednesday to block the administration from implementing the program, saying that his concerns about safety, security and job loss had not been met."

Last I looked LaHood and Perez-Jacome were not elected officials. So again I ask, where is the Republican outcry to this. At least one democratic representative has come out against it...where are the Republicans?

Not all truckers are unionized. There are a fair amount of independents out there.

Did you note..Obama agreed to this in MARCH. Where was DeFazio then ?
Why did he wait til Wednesday when it was too late ?

One lone Democrat and you're calling out the Republicans ?
Where's Reid and Pelosi on this. They love to lambast in front of the press on all the wrongs done to American workers.

Sadly no. The border states may get hit with some huge fines.
I hope they can get exemptions due to the US allowing the trucks to cross the border as they are.

Well, I live in the Los Angeles metro so I don't know if I'll notice.

[either the air quality impact or the dirty trucks...]

Such a bad idea all around. Bring unsafe, polluting vehicles onto our roads, and/or use OUR money to fix their p.o.s. vehicles. Our truckers will lose jobs. The wages for those that keep them will start to decline. And I wonder what kind of insurance hassles will pop up should they get in accidents. So what are the actual benefits of this fleecing again?

1 lone Democrat v. 0 Republicans. I think you are on the wrong side. How often do Republicans agree with Obama...it would seem that this is one of them. Both parties are wrong for not opposing this. I am not so narrow minded to believe this is one parties fault. NAFTA was a bipartisan mistake.
