You revise the system if scammers are more common than people who really need it....

The best we can do is regulate and keep our eyes open and use the judicial system to prosecute the scammers.
Thing is,no-one in power CARES the system is scammed or that it doesn't work...

But hundreds and hundreds of thousands of legitimate poverty whether it be short term or long term needs addressing.
Again, there aren't that many Americans living in actual poverty, they may be living less well than others but they aren't poverty stricken...

You are right but you have yet to prove that their are more scammers then people who need it.

I agree that many of these leaders we have only really care about themselves.

Again the report given here was in 2005 we are in 2011 things change. Just because the poor have one or two items that are not needed does not mean they are "living good."

First of all, as HappyTexan said . . . who the hell considers kitchen appliances a luxury? And on top of that, HUD requires working appliances, water, heat or they won't pay the landlord.
Please, this is the same person who said on the first 2 or so page that the rich don't get subsidized....

try again.

Please stop replying inside the quote,it is more difficult to reply to your message.

No-one knows how many scammers there are because no-one is interested in finding out,for various reasons.

The report is the newest there is,blame the fedgov.

They are living pretty well considering....better than most people in the world.Certainly not going hungry or going without shelter.

If you're basically a monster that doesn't care about the suffering of others, here's a practical reason to support the poor - they are the consumers of the products that the rich need to sell to get richer. Take a look at the various methods of stimulus - putting money in the hands of the poor has the most direct effect on boosting the economy, because poor people go out and spend that money.

So??Is TV now some sort of fundamental human right????Actually,it probably is to most Americans....like I said, the landlord already has the cable in the building....most of them may have a tv, but they are getting the basic tv not the more expensive programs....and its to keep the latchkey kids busy while single mom is at work! But they don't get lunch with that tv.

And they still will be living better than 99% of the world without a cellphone and cable TV...
SO WHAT! We all live better than most of the world. Get real.

Thing is,no-one in power CARES the system is scammed or that it doesn't work...that simply isn't true, its just opinion.

Are YOU on drugs? The senior citizens that live off SSI entirely are in deep poverty. They either have to have a food program in their community, and if they dare have an aging pet, they are sharing what they have! Good gried...that ignorant statement defies even right wing crazy! What about the severly disabled? What about the mentally incompetant, what about the homeless vet, what about the homeless families. 1 out of 4 children in this country go HUNGRY! There are people living in Appalachia that live without electricity or water piped in, they've lived in poverty forever, generational poverty. We have millions in ACTUAL
poverty. I actually was surprised, even you would make a comment like that!

Don't let one thing like this make you lump the ENTIRE group of people needing food help into a big pile of hate.
No, it wasn't "one" thing. A lot of them bought lobsters using the cash on their ACCESS card. It wasn't JUST lobsters, we're also talking salmons, tunas (NOT THE CAN), and other fish. NOT the cheap kind too.

There also didn't seem to be ANY restrictions. They couldn't use that stuff with the food stamp portion, but with the cash portion they were able to buy.. whatever. It's just like a debit card. It had money in it.

Even a ton of the WIC customers were so ungrateful. WIC is pretty awesome, and they come in with a check with the items listed. 8oz cheddar cheese STORE brand means just that. It doesn't mean BORDEN'S JALEPENO CHEESE. This is VERY true. I've had people ARGUE that "it don't matter, it still cheese. It's mah money!"

Go get a job at a supermarket near a ghetto area. Open your mind and pay attention to what you see. My heart DOES break for people who truly need it, and cutting these programs and hurting those who really deserve the HELP make me cringe. BUT this type of "poor" is a lifestyle choice. There's never any reason to better themselves. Why bother bettering yourself when you can have your main bills covered so you can spend your money on what you want?

It was a very eye opening experience and I was only 16. I never really knew anything about "food stamps", but what I did hear was all negative. Guess what? My year and 1/2 there was filled DAILY with stereotypes.

This is NOT a stereotype. This IS common.

And it sucks because there are people who truly, truly, need the help
