So not to quibble... but you list Norway as 30 percent.... but ooopsy, the U.S. government beats Norway, in that regard. So our problems should be solved, right? No. Hardly. It's what is done with it, that really makes the difference.

The common conception that I think a lot of people hold, this idea that "America is owned by all those big, bad capitalists evil corporations"... is actually quite the astounding myth. In fact, quite the opposite.... the U.S. is probably fairly high (if not very high) on the list of countries whos government hogs vast portions of the nations land..... making our government and its land grabbing ways directly complicit in the nations homelessness problem. Every man, woman, and child could have a place to call home if we wanted to. Every citizen could have access to modes of production, making the distribution of wealth in the nation much more equal, if not for governments totalitarian, iron fisted control of these resources. Governments extremely aggressive land grabbing policies, and their violent reluctance to let each and every citizen partake in the resources in various ways to improve their life substantially, is the problem. They prevent those resources you were talking about from being used by our citizens, for our citizens.

So no... a bulk of the problem is NOT so much that the capitalists "own the country," like I said, the reality is quite the contrary, they don't.... The problem is that even though our government (a.k.a. allegedly "the people") owns all that land (I contest that claim on property rights grounds - but that aside - as I think those resources exist for every human being on Earth to avail themselves of to live, thrive, and survive. These governments, so far as I am aware, are not "God," they did not make the Earth and all its abundance, and they sure as heck should have no moral claim over it for just that very reason... It is there for all animals... including humans to use)...... the scumbags hog it and cause untold misery on our citizens by depriving the public writ large of these very resources.

The government OWNS the resources but they alllow private companies to profit from them not the people. Who the hell do you think is doing the drilling, the timber cutting, the mining on federal lands and where does that money go? That is the difference with a country like Norway. Do your research before you spout off at the mouth about something you have NO clue about. Norway has a $350 billion sovereign wealth fund in which they fund social services and the future generations of Norwegian society. Contrast that with America who is $14 trillion in debt. You are another clueless American.

Many western US gold mines are located on federal public land, on which the mining companies pay no royalties to the US government. Gold mines operate under the General Mining Act of 1872, which permits mineral mining on public land without payment of royalties. Fighting reforms to have the gold mining industry pay royalties, the local community commission in Elko County, Nevada said that royalties would force mining companies to cut jobs and move elsewhere.[44]

Alaska is 89% Federal land and how many privately held oil companies who have US politicians in their pockets are reaping billions from profits of oil that belong to the US people. Either that or our government is pissing away our wealth with extremem mismanagement of our profit from resources.
