People can't find work because there are not enough jobs... the cure is to create jobs but you can't really "create" something because you want it... you have to give it an environment where it can form on its own... how fast it forms depends on its environment... throwing money at it isn't going to create real jobs nor is training someone for a job that isn't going to be available soon or about to fill up... the government needs to get a clue...

That's also pretty sad that you have to get after school training .I never wanted to go to school, just to straight into the workforce .Since when did an high school diploma become something you could wipe your rearend eith ? Translation having a diploma means nothing .
As for finding jobs ,I am not sure education is the reason. It's simply put there are no jobs ,there are people with high school diplomas to a PH.D level who can't find work .There are grants from the Federal level Pell Grants (for now ),state grants ,school grants or loans to go back to school. So it's not like the unemployeed do not have options.

Unemployment is high because the people that were qualified enough and were in jobs lost them. They are no less qualified than when they were hired, but conditions are not such that companies will hire right now.

In some cases, the skilled workers might be better off starting their own company rather than waiting for another one to hire them though.

Sounds like a Bad Thing for employed burger flippers: no upside and lots of downside.

Since the availability of training HAS been there for years, where is this booming economy you're talking about?

<scratching head - heartbreak of psoriasis>What free training? The free training I've seen is pretty useless unless you want to be an office secretarial drone.

And, when some people learn that GIVE is also the keyword when the statement is "GIVE corporations more breaks", maybe we'll get somewhere.

I love the typical hypocrisy of GIVE to corporations so they can hire(and then they do so in other countries) while people should be given nothing to prepare them for these alleged jobs.

It's called student loans. Get one. Get your degree/training. Advance yourself.

We have finite resources and education is not free. The public schools (K-12) are funded with taxpayer money (usually through property taxes).

If you are motivated enough, you can improve your skills.

I wonder why people are afraid of student loans? Maybe it's because they are worried they cannot default on those loans? That's a pretty big deterrent. Only those serious enough about their education so get loans.

Sure they can default on student loans, it happens every day. Then you're screwed, they take your tax refunds, your stimulus payments, and your Social Security checks, plus a fee for the privilege.

That's right, the government is actually making money on student loan defaulters with the fees and interest they collect.

You think companies think they can't hire people right now? There is an ocean of people they can hire right now.

I understand your point, but it's really just twisting the use of the language. The "give" in "give corprorations more breaks," is really just not forcing corporations to "give" more of their earnings to the government. In the other scenario, the government is actually dispersing a service. In one case the government gives, and in the other, they just take less. I think there are valid discussions on the two, but they are not the same.
