I'll never cheer that people will lose their jobs...
but...

the mail isn't the same anymore. E-mails and faxes alone have probably been a significant downfall to the USPS.. not to mention that UPS and FedEx seem to do a better job with packages.

With our current money condition, whatever isn't working needs to go. In this case, there's probably way too many USPS locations that just aren't worth it.

Nor will I.

Priority and international mail not doing it for USPS?

Let someone buy the USPS and completely privatize it.
No more subsidies, protections from competition or congressional interference.

Added a word for you. I often wonder why liberals would rather face layoffs than sensible cuts to overly generous benefits plans. You see this in the public school systems as well. When facing unemployment or being asked to contribute more towards my own retirement and health care, I would not choose unemployment. But then again, I'm no liberal.

Keep the US Postal Service operating. Delivering the mail is a legitimate function of government and does not have to operate at a profit. At least it is providing wages and benefits to US citizens in the US and cannot be off shored. Compared with some other Government programs like unlimited military support of foreign petroleum companies the Postal Service is not only legitimate but cheap.

It's no longer "legitimate" when a service incurs an expense to those who don't utilize it.

Would it be okay if I bill you for a repair to your neighbors car?

I don't think anyone here is disagreeing. It can also operate completely privatized or at a greatly reduced scale.

You are still free to write a letter to your pals with a quill pen and it's ink well.
