Why not more American theme parks? instead of segregated parks?
Because themed parks are just that - recreational parks with a theme. Cultural themes are interesting and pretty amazing if done correctly. They are able to teach and introduce children to different cultures and make it enjoyable at the same time.
I don't see why one couldn't make an American-themed park. As long as it's interesting and the rides are great, I'd go to one.
And now I'm craving a bread bowl stew from the Ireland section of Busch Gardens...
Why not stop there how about Latino themed currency?
Mr. Salazar no doubt understands that there are some people who believe that nothing of historical importance happened outside of the thirteen original colonies.
I've no issue with anything that gives a fuller picture of the contributions of any group that has played an integral part in the development of our country.
But then, I choose to live in a state that embraces all aspects of its heritage, not just that which began when wagons rolled up from back east.

Well. The US Government isn't in the business of creating theme parks. Save that for Anheuser-Busch. A private company can create a jihadi theme park if they think it's going to be profitable.
The federal government isn't in the business of building carnival rides either. I fail to see why Congressman Salazar thinks we need the feds creating Latino-themed NATIONAL PARKS eg. Yosemite, Sequoia, Grand Canyon, Gettysburg...etc.
The best way to immerse yourself in Paris, is not to go to Las Vegas and stay at the casino. You get a ticket on Air France and go. We don't need to make a replica of Paris in the USA - artificial like you're on the back lot at Universal Studios.
We need to value what American culture is. And we do that by honoring our unique history and culture. Whatever ethnicity added a flavor to the pot, they get STIRRED IN, they BLEND and become AMERICAN. Your ethnicity should be AMERICAN first.
Doesn't the Alamo count as a Latino themed national treasure?
Seriously though, there are several missions etc. here in the states and I'm hoping they aren't ignoring territories like Puerto Rico that have several parks including the only tropical rain forest in the US PARKS SYSTEM.
When Heritage USA was around nobody complained that it put us on a slippery slope toward a theocracy. A Latino theme park sounds like fun and who doesn't like fun? Baptists and Nazis, that's who.

Both are great for our society, is the thing. Now, I live around a metric effton of historical landmarks (as in, Jamestown is right down the road), so I understand their importance.

However, if a landmark has great historical value, it should be treated as such. It's not about artificially creating Latino parks and such - the actual issue is labeling and cataloging the landmarks already here.

And by being stirred and blended in, their culture alters the taste of American Culture - even if just slightly.
Mr. Salazar has a top candidate, just a little ways down the road from Ben Bernanke's hometown. I say we build a Ben Bernanke monument at South of the Border to recognize two national treasures.
