The Gay community if and when Sharia law is attempted they're going to reflect back on the good old days with Conservative Christians.
They'll have company though the adulterers at Ashley Madison, Feminists, Liberals, drunks the list is endless.
Wouldn't it be nice if both extremist groups went gently into that good night?
If dominionist Christian groups had their way (Rick Perry, Michelle Bachmann, Sarah Palin), this whole planet would be under strict Christian law. At the very least you would be re-educated if you were a homosexual, amongst other things. Extremist Muslims and extremist Christians basically want the same thing; worldwide order, under their god's rules. Do we really want to defend either side? The lesser of two evils? Is there no better path?
....... The closest thing I've heard of Sharia law in the US is the bible belt. I.
Well, don't leave us hanging. What did you "hear" about the application of Sharia in the Bible belt?
Who did you hear it from? Someone reliable?
I could see a more sympathetic attitude towards Sharia in the more Progressive states due to thier strong committment to diversity and non-judgementalism.
What city in the U.S. will be the first where a judge will allow sharia law to be introduced into the procedings? Will the procedings be appealed as being in violation of state law?
What state will be the first to amend their penal laws and criminal procdure laws to allow sharia?
Have you heard about the NJ judge who ruled that a Muslim husband could force his wife to have sex even though the judge knew hubbie violated NJ criminal law ?
At the trial, an Imam testified that a wife must comply with her husband's sexual demands, because the husband is prohibited from obtaining sexual satisfaction elsewhere. However, a husband was forbidden to approach his wife “like any animal.” OK to force sex, but not 'like an animal.' How sweet.
A Superior Court fortunately overturned the crazy judge's ruling: "In resolving this conflict, the judge determined to except defendant from the operation of the State's statutes as the result of his religious beliefs. In doing so, the judge was mistaken."
This shows that judges have allowed Sharia into cases.
The US Constitution, is a very powerful document. Unlike any other.
It is what keeps them from turning us into what they wish, on a whim.
The Constitution isn't worth the paper it's printed on in the absence of an educated populace that understands, respects, and vigorously supports its principles.
We haven't had that in this country for at least 25 years. There have been so many end runs around the Constitution recently that it has become something like one linebacker trying to hold back the entire Green Bay Packers team.

But in the Bible belt, of all places?
I believe what the other poster was saying is that the closest thing he's seen to "religious laws" being made into "legal laws" is in regards to Christianity in the Bible Belt.
I'm not saying he's correct, just interpreting based on what I read it as.
