After reading innumerable threads and comments regarding racial self-identification, lack of assimilation, and screeds about multiculturalism I thought to myself why is it that I've never read a thread or comment advocating the ending of the classification referred to as white? I mean if African American is so offensive because of its alleged inaccuracy then why not do a way with the term white, after all, white people are exactly white or anything close to it. So, in the hopes of bringing about that much touted color blind society, I would like to make the following offer.
Do away with the idea or whiteness and I will stop identifying myself as an African American and ask others to do the same.
What do you think?
It's not white. It's European American! White is so racist! How dare you come here and say such racist things!
If you are african-american, are you, too, white? I'd just as soon be called Caucasian, anyway, a clear, and distinct separation from any other race. Not all african-americans are negroid, you know?

I wouldn't let other people control you like that. If you want to be Afican American, do it.
When people like yourself stop acting like perpetual victims then maybe I will change my perception of you.
Good one, how true utterly true.
And this white privledge so many speak about, i have to LMAO becuase i know so many white people who are saying, really where the hell is it!
How come i did not get any of that.
Exccuses need to stop, and people need to just be themselves, be Americans, not happy here, don't stay here.
Most of us do have a nationality, so what, most of us were also born in this Country. People make more of a deal about race, and if it does not stop, things won't get better.
Too many still playing the victim, and many many have moved forward, not Obama's forward, but forward within their own PERSON Be happy with who you are, if that is white, black, brown, does not matter, as i say, until one races stops bleeding red we are all created equal, with just a different shell..
You have to the power to do it people. When you see that checkbox with race there is always "Other" with a blank.
I check it and then write in "American".
DO IT. If we all started doing that it would screw up their nice "racial statistics" and maybe, just maybe it wouldn't be thrown in our face with every MSM report.
We are giving them what they want and they use it against us to keep us pitted against each other. Think about that one.
Check "Other" and write in "American". I have not been refused or rejected because of it. Raised eyebrows, smirks and once in a while "Good for you". I consider that doing my part to make us all equal.

I think you have the right to identify yourself as you please. However, your comparison is not apples to apples - it's apples to oranges. Apples to apples would be "European American." And I know people who identify themselves as this.
Whatever you want to call yourself is fine by me. And how 'bout this - you extend the same courtesy to me. The reason why it's easier for me to call myself "white" is because it's a lot easier to say than "German English Scottish Irish French Swiss Crow Iriquois Jewish American."
Nyaahhhhh, think I'll just stick with white.
I really think people should worry less about how others identify themselves and pay more attention to how they represent THEMSELVES to others.

I LOVE THIS IDEA! My kids have been doing this for years. I don't know why I haven't been doing it myself, now that I think of it.
Does no one feel weird calling themselves "black" or "white"?
Even I use those terms as shorthand on this site, but I feel weird saying it because it's so inaccurate.
How many European Americans are REALLY the color of a sheet of paper, and how many African Americans are REALLY the color of the text on this page?
