Wouldn't the fact that there is little or no crime in affluent African American neighborhoods negate the correlation between blackness and criminality?

Yes, black neighborhoods are more dangerous than non black neighborhoods so your point is for everyone that is non black should stay away. That's what you want to hear right?
Do I need to bring up South Philly, anything south of say Broad and Washington? That part of town makes University City seem safe.
Or to put forth the reverse argument- In Rittenhouse, is a Black resident living there (north of South street) more likely to commit a violent crime than a White person? This pulls SES out of the equation. Is a Black person living on the Main Line more likely to rob, kill or break into you car?

Crime happens more prevently in poor neighborhoods for obvious reasons. The failed public housing boon of the 70s clustered many poor, generally black people together thus more crime is prevelant.
I know this goes against what the covert racist here are attempting to imply. I reside in a predominantly black upper middle class neighborhood with very low crime.
How does it compare to comparable non-black upper middle class nabes? My guess is not that well because even middle class black kids are immersed in the regressive black culture. Many think being a thug is to be black.
There is a correlation of the cities with the highest crime rates and high black populations. Here's the cities that have the top crime rates:
1. St. Louis (49% black)
2. Atlanta (54% black)
3. Birmingham Alabama (62% black)
5. Detroit (82% black)
6. Memphis (62% black)
8. Baltimore (63% black)
10. Cleveland (tie) (53% black)
Nationally compiled statistics show that blacks are 7 times more likely to commit murder and 8 times more likely to commit theft. The majority of robberies and break-ins in my city are committed by blacks, though they're only about 10% of the population.
These aren't racist opinions. They're uncomfortable facts that people would rather sugar-coat than deal with. As long as we take the politically-correct route and pretend this isn't a problem in fear of being labeled a racist, we're doing a disservice to all Americans.
Bingo. Stats are racist I guess. Also it's no coincidence New York and DC are not on the list. You will notice that the cities you listed are not big immigrant or yuppie destinations.
While NYC and DC are experiencing gentrification and attract hard working immigrants which blunt the impact of wanton black violence.
Police do deserve some of the credit but the declining rates of crime in these cities IMHO is directly linked to the reduction of Black American population in those cities.
1600 pennsylvania ave, washington dc turned black and got a lot better.
And it's more about the poverty rate of the neighborhood instead of the color.
