"The South’s alternative vision of the good society was defeated in the Civil War, and our 20th-century history can be told as a narrative of halting progress toward greater tolerance and equality. The major plot points include regulations on corporations in the early 1900s; women’s suffrage in 1920; a social safety net in the New Deal; the Supreme Court’s rejection of Jim Crow laws in 1954; the civil rights and feminist movements of the 1960s; the gay rights victories since the 1970s."

Did the Civil War ever really end? Or was it passed on to the children of the south?

The Civil War ended quite emphatically. There are dozens of Confederate Cemeteries that attest to that.

What you have now are a lot of loudmouths and their cries of the "South will rise again," but the Civil War is definitely over.

Civil rights was only one small part of the reason for the civil war. Lincoln wasn't even interested in the slavery issue until the war was well underway.

I said it. And the history books say it. And anyone with half a brain says it.

Civil Rights had nothing to do with it. Slavery on the other hand, had EVERYTHING to do with it.

I am not sure I understood that. Are they against all those 'plot points'?

Personally I could care less if they left the Union...typically the south has been nothing but a drain anyway. IMO...no loss.

To be more precise, slavery is was a "liberty" issue, not a "rights" issue. But either way, it wasn't the reason for the war. It's true that the South wanted more state power because they were afraid that abolitionists in the North would start putting restrictions on slavery, but that all went back to the central government issue. The civil war was about central government power, not slavery.
