History doesn't revolve around a single race unless you go out of your way to do it. This program was put together by activists who think the Mexicans are victims of bad US policy.

There is no multiple viewpoints in this curriculum. 3-12 is taught from the Mexican perspective and how history impacted them. That sounds like a narrow, single viewpoint that will leave it's impression on young children as they grow up.
This is true. College level - maybe okay.

3 - 12th grade public school - nope.

Not disagreeing with everything you say or the sentiment in which you express it, but this state is FAR from the new age Alabama. This is mostly a live and let live state. That's the honest to goodness truth.

We simply have some extreme politicians that get elected from some of the more nuttier districts in the state. It's unfortunate. It makes the whole state look bad. As a black man, i can tell you that i wouldn't live in any other state before i'd live here.

This whole situation is just one symptom of the undeniable fact that there is a huge racial division in this state. Something needs to be done about it before it's too late (which it may already be).

I predict that Arizona will suffer yet another Constitutional smack-down in Federal Court.

From the outside looking in it appears that a lot of the politicians/lawmen associated with your state are taking questionable positions. The national guard might not be escorting minorities to class and the police using fire hoses on protesters but one seed of bigotry can grow into a forest if left unchecked. So my position is whenever racism arrears its ugly head, call it by its name and fight it where ever it goes.

I did have a Black History Class in High School that was pretty good and i'm glad i took it. But at the end of the day, it's more important to simply incorporate that stuff into a regular American History class. Well, at least the portions of Black History that are relevant to an American History syllabus. No need to teach who invented the straightening comb.
hahaha

the problem with the ethnic studies classes in the TUSD is that they are not being taught accurate history. for instance, they are not being taught that the citizens of calfornia VOTED to join the US, or that the citizens of texas fought to gain their freedom from mexico, and later signed a treaty to become a US state, or that mexico SOLD large tracts of land to the US which includes much of new mexico, arizona, utah, nevada, colorado, etc. what they are being taught is that the evil US government stole the land from mexico, and that it should be taken back from the US, by force is necessary.

these classes are in fact divisive in nature, and they tend to be limited to hispanic students for the most part.

So we assume are to assume that you've been sitting in a k-12 classroom much less in every k-12 classroom in the TUSD? And, are we to assume that you are the single most authority on southwestern U.S. history and curriculum development? I ask the latter question because it raises issue of academic freedom, the right of teachers to teach (within the curriculum standards) as then deem appropriate, which apparently the staff and administration of the TSUD believed that they were.

i will admit that i am basing my opinion from liberal media reports here in tucson regarding the issue in question. i also know that the students in those classes prevented the local school board from voting on eliminating those classes several times by very loud protests. again the local media has video of these things happening. also my niece attended school in the TUSD and made similar comments that i made.

Doesn't that work both ways ? I thought we want to get rid of racism and victimhood ?

I happen to agree with this statement taken from the OP's link:

"..framing historical events in racial terms, the teachers promote groupthink and victimhood."
that whole area is MORE a part of HISPANIC history than american. there are families in that area that date back to the 1500's yet the white people in the area did not move there till MUCH LATER.. and you're telling me the hispanics are FOREIGNERS? the REGIONAL area's history is one of HISPANICS mainly. THEY have been there longer and are less FOREIGN than YOU are.
