Period.
If I were them, I'd be sure to arm myself against the US and Israel.

By this logic, anyone can attack the US if they like, because the US can attack them.

Duh, what absurd logic.

Really? How about genocide? You lefties seem to have gotten all fired up about Darfur....

I want the salvage rights to whatever is left of our fleets if we are stupid enough to attack Iran. They do not need any nuclear weapons to stop an invasion in its tracks. If we do I expect Iran to have international news feeds on the beaches and in the air to broadcast that we started and invasion and they stopped it. We will get our Arse kicked because we believe our own propaganda and have lost touch with the concept of fighting a war with people that can fight back.

The “suicide” boat the OP mentioned does not need any people on board to find and hit our surface ships. The entire job can be done with a laptop PC and a few infrared sensors. No nukes required. Just modern electronics, decent programmers and a people willing to give the worlds biggest bully a well deserved punch in the nose.

OMG! Fast boats with explosives, it's a completely novel risk. Wait - no, it's been something naval commanders have worried about since, oh, 1900 or so.

I also wonder what happens when Iran, the nation that has the fastest torpedoes in the world uses them with nuclear warheads. They wouldn't do a thing like using those after the US unilaterally gets rid of all but 300 of their nuclear bombs, would they? I bet Obama thinks the answer is no.
The most effective countermeasure against nuclear-tipped torpedoes is ICBMs, now. Got it. (The 300 nuke figure you're listing are strategic, mmkay?) That must hold true in the same world where a navy sophisticated enough to field "the world's fastest torpedoes" with nuclear warheads is - at the same time - using just about the most primitive weapon there is, small boats with explosives, in suicide attacks.

If I were us I would want to check for a recent uptick in Cigarette boat sales. I would also check on supersonic model airplane sales. I am not kidding.

So what if Iran develops nuclear power of even weapons. The world has survived a multiplicity of countries with nuclear weapons, including a fear crazed Israel, so what is the problem with another player? Or are we just defending the Sunni Saudis against the blasphemous Shiite Persians that might be able to pump more oil than the cartel wants? There is nothing more desperate then a monopoly that is losing control or the supply and prices. The only thing dumber than arguing religion is getting into a war over one.

I do NOT want to see anyone killed in another war over crazed egos or oil production.

Roy...if you want a war with Iran, you know where the airport is. Report immediately and start invading.

But please, leave the rest of us sane people out of it.

Not one to throw out jingoistic statements, but methinks that any Iranian warship that would attack an American naval vessel would be by definition a suicide boat.

You know what causes leaders in countries like Iran and Iraq to cross that line? Because the United States is covertly trying to end their regimes, and when they realize they are either going to

a. Die from the hands of your citizens

or

b. Go to war with America and maybe wait it out so that you can get away.

Which option are they going to choose? I bet B. I mean any chance, even a small one, is better then being overthrown in a revolution sponsored by America. Look at Gaddafi.

The United States has more problems at home to worry about. Iran having a nuclear bomb is not our problem. Let the Arabs deal with the Persians.

I doubt any Iranian vessel of any size could come within 20 miles of a U.S. Naval vessel.

The US Navy is more powerful than the rest of the world's navies combined.

True. Even if they could or fired missiles, they wouldn't be able to get pass our Phalanx cannons on board.
