Why are republicans so much against the "Buffet rule"?
can you actually make an argument that provides adequate rationality to go against this?

How about we just have a registered Democrats' tax instead. Warren Buffet and all his loudmouth Democrat brethren can all pay a surtax in the name of social justice. Just leave the rest of us out of it.

Estimates say that a 30% tax on $1,000,000 a year or more on income will bring in approximately $40,000,000,000 - $50,000,000,000 a year.

What the flying f*** is that going to do to $1,300,000,000,000 - $1,500,000,000,000 deficits per year besides provide envy, hatred and demagoguery?

When one of your children gets all A's in their classes you go straight to the other children and point out how unfairly they did that and how they should have to give up their high grades to them because you bred inferior children, right?

Is the 30% on earned income, or dividends?

How about just taxing dividends at the same rate as earned income and then lower the marginal rates fro everyone?

Wrong. Grades do not direct translate/relate to distribution of income or taxes.
And the question is not addressing our deficit issues...

The middle class mostly pay ~30% taxes on their income. Most people do not have the luxury to find loopholes and pay lower proportions of their income.

Give me an argument that encourages those with 1M+ income should pay 20% or 10% or whatever...why would you use distribution of grades to compare proportionality of income tax....pointless

30% is too high, especially in the absence of comprehensive tax reform.

The Simpson Bowles Commission, the earlier commission chaired by Alice Rivlin, the bipartisan Gang of Six all called for taking the junk out of the tax code, lowering the rates, and collecting more actual money. Obama wants high rates so he has greater power to bestow favors by special credits and exemptions for his pet causes.

The tax code is an overgrown, corrupt, prostituted mess. Obama wants to add a few dozen pages here and a few dozen pages there, to nail corporate jet owners while giving out free passes to certain industries. We need a leader to reform the whole code, to level the playing field, to treat everybody equally under the law.

You've mistaken the Obama campaign material for a serious attempt at governance and leadership.

well said. what people do not understand is that the CBO is NOT allowed to take into account behavior when calculating the affect that increased taxes have on government revenue.

for instance, if i had say $2 million in capital gains income per year, and you decided to raise the capital gains tax, what i would do is dump my investments, pay the 15% capital gains tax rate to avoid the higher tax rates coming in later, and either put my money away where the government cant get it, or invest it in other countries that are more tax friendly, and leave the income in the other countries rather than bring it back to this country.

Honestly, if saving $50 billion per year is insignificant than how will we ever lower our debt. $50 billion is a lot of money for one year... I hear people complaining about spending $347,000 on park renovations... I'm just saying... your argument hurts people who are in favor for lowering our debt by cutting expenses and people in favor for increasing revenue.
