For YEARS (15+) I have taught history and civics without EVER telling my students my personal political views. I have always refused to answer the questions "who did you vote for" or what do you think about...". I have always presented (and will continue to do so) both sides fairly and acurately. I even have had kids in the past give me books like "Tears of a Clown" by Glenn Beck and "Godless: The Church of Liberalism" by Coulter to read. Many of them probably assumed that I was conservative because I did't hide the fact that I was a Christian. I never wanted to have any influence on them by stating my own peference.
I have now come out of the closet, and will admit I'm a Democrat, because of the Republican candidates (not including Ron Paul). I've done this because I don't want them to think that I would have anything to do with these..... well, I'll be nice and call them people. I will now let them know that I will vote Obama. I will let them know that I like Ron Paul and respect his views, and I could be happy with him as president (but he's a bit radical).
The right wing has just gotten insane and I won't allow any of my students to have the mistaken idea that I would support any of them.
That's sad.
After all these years of doing your job and performing non-partisan you now decide to push an agenda in the classroom.
Believe it or not, because I was so non-committal, I think that they assumed that I was a Republican. I love the fact that these kids were interested in politics and will encourage them, whatever their political leanings. I think that apathy is the worst thing in our society and want to get people out there to vote. That is the basis of our democracy. I don't want a bunch of mindless automatonons (sorry if this is spelled wrong) I think that if we teach our children to think for themselves we can raise a generation of children that can keep this republic going. I don't want to use propaganda and other bull**** to brainwash our children. Let, us be bold enough to teach kids to THINK. My views may differ from yours, but, I have enough respect to give facts and not propaganda.

Secondly, you claim facts, not propoganda, but will vote for Obama because Ron Paul is too radical! Obama is a radical, he was raised a radical, associated with radicals, his mentor Frank was a radical, Rev. Wright, Bill Ayers, Bernadine, Valerie Jarret, an Iranian-born Marxist, just to name a few.

History is vital, as a foundation for what separates this country from the rest, our founding principles as set forth in the Constitution. Obama doesn't like the Constitution because it limits his power. Teach that!

I do find it curious as to why you thought it a good idea to come out to your class. You are in a strong position of influence, so hopefully you won't let your bias, stifle opposing views of your students. My view is that both parties are rotten to the core, but Ron Paul could restore some integrity to both sides.
My general rule is that I only give my opinion when asked, but I never volunteer my opinion, (and even then, I don't tell them why I think the way I do.) But I completely understand where you're coming from. I'd be mortified if anyone suspected that I'd vote for one of the GOP candidates. Good lord...

The correlation between intelligence and being left leaning isn't a fluke. People whom are intelligent know how to think for themselves, and that right wing policies have always failed.
The GOP appeals to the most ignorant, uneducated, racist idiots among us that are easily programmed. You can say it's easy to be a republican as all you have to do is be dumb, filled with hate, and do as you're told. It takes at least half a brain to be affiliated with any other party.
The only ones who were easily programmed were the Obama supporters chanting "Hope and change," and "Yes, we can." They certainly were not "thinking for themselves."
I don't get pleasure from attacking people, 3. In my opinion, the modern GOP has gone so far off the deep end, one has to be a total mouth breathing drooler (or very rich) to be a part of it. That's just an observation.
Remember, a lesson in facts will reveal to any student that it is the Democratic party who wishes to reach into every aspect of your life and regulate you, tax you, and then BLAME you when things do not turn out well-----because YOU did not submit to enough regulation and taxation.
Furthermore, the Democratic battle cry continues "kill the babies, save the death row murderers.....". Talking about going off the deep end, and finding it all PERFECTLY LOGICAL, and ANYONE who disagrees with you is supposedly a fool!
