Should government agencies have to hire people who speak all these different languages so as to accommodate all the different languages spoken by the American public?
why does the govt need to? That person, can hire their own translator or get a relative/friend that speaks English to help them.
The burden will shift to the non-english speaker.
Forms and such are one time translations (and only needed if updates happen) that amount to pennies per word (I deal with translation companies every day).
depending on how you received your green card, a three or five year period of continuous residence and physical presence in the United States is required;
reside in the State in which you are filing;
read, write, and speak English;
a knowledge and understanding of U.S. history and government;
good moral character;
willingness to adopt and defend the principles of the U.S. Constitution.
Because there is no "national" language in the United States. And seeking to do so, in order to attempt to segregate and isolate another group of citizens...is against the law.
How so?
You do not choose your skin color or your gender at birth and for some even religion is set at birth.
Learning a language is under the control of the individual. You can choose to learn a language or choose not to.
I don't ask that everyone become fluent; not everyone is gifted at languages and it can be hard to learn a language as an adult for some. But the basic needs of communication?
Anyone who refuses to learn at least the rudiments of the language of their home country chooses to isolate and segregate themselves, not the other way around.

Most people who don't speak fluent English aren't citizens. Incidentally seeking to change laws isn't against the law. People who live here permantly and don't speak English, unless they have a disability, are simply rude and arrogant.
Most countries have official languages. Why shouldn't we? Because it might make some people, particularly those breaking our immigration laws, feel uncomfortable?
The only people who have no desire to learn English are usually poor and work low-wage jobs..or don't work at all. How else would you be able to thrive in America? I couldn't imagine moving to a foreign country and living my entire life there without even attempting to learn the language.
It's shameful that many jobs require you to be bilingual in Spanish. Folks argue that Americans should be more enlightened and learn other languages. I'll get right on that....as soon as I choose to live in a non-English speaking country.
First of all, there are more than enough people who would like to immigrate here -- preference should be given to those who have prepared themselves well and already know English.
Requiring native Spanish fluency is one very common way to discriminate against American citizens in hiring. You can get all that ultra cheap foreign labor AND deny American citizens a job -- win-win for the greedy business owners.
It's not racist , it's stupid. Just like passing anti-Sharia laws in the US, it's not necessary. What language are we all speaking now?
