The United States of America was founded by -English- colonists. The colonists spoke English and the immigrants that came to America in the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries learned English to fit in. It's a shame the immigrants that come from south of our border today do not possess the intelligence to learn the language as past immigrant groups did, therefor a point must be made.

Almost every family eventually learns English. I've met immigrants who speak broken English, yet their kids speak primarily English and very little of the mother tongue. After 2 or 3 generations the language of the mother land almost always dissapears.
In the movie, "100 Rifles" (1969), a Gringo bounty hunter comes to a Mexican town and is approached by a soldier. The soldier harangues the man and then walks off in a huff, when the man repeats that he only speaks English. Another soldier, an officer, comes over. Asked about what the other man said, the officer replies, " He said, 'You are in Mexico, now. You should speak Spanish.' " (or words to that effect).
This needs to happen. Communication is the very foundation upon which the rest of society is built. Groups that choose to not learn or speak English are segregating themselves from the US at large and it's resulting in a splintered citizenry. Feel free to speak whatever language you want. Speak several, whatever floats your boat. But we really need an official language to tie all groups together and foster cohesiveness across all backgrounds.
I see nothing wrong with making English the national language. Most non English speaking countries unless someone is around that does speak English you do the best you can. Although most major hotels do have English speaking staff.
I'm not sure if this is still the case but I had friends that were moving to Israel and they had 1 year once they arrived to learn Hebrew and be somewhat fluent in the language. It only makes sense to me that if you can't speak the language your only going to be a burden to the country, as your choices for employment are going to be slim to none. I do know there is a booklet you can dowload with important phrases in Hebrew which is recommended for people visiting Israel.
It is a personal freedom to chose what language you speak however its not part of our Constitution or The Bill of Rights to provide information such as utility bills or legal documents in another language. Maybe you have not noticed but not all road signs are in the universal format. Such as "slow deaf child" or "lane closure ahead" does anyone at DMV make sure that a non-English speaking even knows what these signs mean before they are granted their drivers license.
I am 3rd generation and when my great grandparents came over the first thing they did was learn English so they could get better jobs and be an American. I knew a man that came to America after surviving a concentration camp, he didn't know English. He sold lighbulbs on the New York City streets until he learned enough English to get a better job. When he passed away he had owned a Christmas tree light factory and although he still had an accent he was fluent in English.. Now that is what America is all about.
Because there is no "national" language in the United States. And seeking to do so, in order to attempt to segregate and isolate another group of citizens...is against the law.
Actually, it's a way to have everyone on equal footing. Isn't that the goal of diversity? Everyone is equal? Think of how much we can benefit as a society if everyone came together under one common, national language.
So how much tax $$ and time are they wasting trying to push through this stupid agenda when there are much more important issues that need to be resolved?
