One of those bills that were passed illegally under the Immediate Effect Clause was the controversial Emergency Financial Manager Law, signed into law by Rick Snyder on March 16, 2011. This is the law that gives one single person, appointed by the governor of the state, the power to overthrow the elected officials of a municipality, sell off its assets, and toss out legally-binding union contracts. Do note, in order for a law to pass with the Immediate Effect, 73 of the 110 members in the state's house must vote in support of a bill.
If what MAddow says is true (it only passed by 62 votes versus the necessary 73 votes), the EFM law was passed illegally and the 5 or 6 entities that have been placed under an EFM should not have.
Remind you, this law is already pending an citizens repeal anyway.
Now some foks, like the 8 year olds they area, will justify this by saying "Well the Democrats did it too." Well MAddow brought along her facts to back up her accusations, so how about you folks who justify this do the same...
1. Did the laws that the Democrats pass under the Immediate Effect clause pass with a 2/3rds vote in the house?
2. Did the Democrats ever pass a law that took away the democratic rights of the citizens in this state?
3. Did the Republicans ever request a roll call vote when the Democrats passed laws under the immediate effect clause?
As an independent, if in fact the Democrats did also utilize the Immediate Effect clause, I am ashamed that both parties would trample over what our fore fathers fought long and hard to prevent. It doesn't matter if one side trampled over the Constitution or both sides did it, the fact that it's even happening is sickening. I, for one, am deeply ashamed of this state for allowing this to happen. When Scott Walker trampled over the legal rights of union members to collectively bargain in the great state of Wisconsin, its citizens cam from all over and pretty much put day to day business to a halt in its state capital to protest Unamerican leader who attempted to illegally reserve thee 50+ years of progress made by our laborers. It gives me yet another reason to vote with my feet, because lord knows my written vote isn't going to count since my municipality has now, more or less, had its democratic rights taken from it.

This has been occurring under the radar. I've heard Maddow speak about this and it's appalling. They have literally killed the democratic process. I have a feeling that this is going to get more media attention in the days to come...I certainly hope so.

Wow. I admire your nerve. Because it really takes some nerve to, in a post about circumventing the democratic process, to bring up the Wisconsin situation and blast the Republicans over it but not mention the Democrats who left the state to avoid a vote.

Is this more or less ethical than passing the law so we can see what's in it?
I stopped reading when I saw Rachael Maddow mentioned. Thanks for saving me much time.............
