The politicization of higher education by activist professors and compliant university administrators deprives students of the opportunity to acquire knowledge and refine their minds. It also erodes the nation's civic cohesion and its ability to preserve the institutions that undermine democracy in America.
So argues "A Crisis of Competence: The Corrupting Effect of Political Activism in the University of California," (http://educationviews.org/2012/03/31/a-crisis-of-competence-the-corrupting-effect-of-political-activism-in-the-university-of-california/ - broken link) a new report by the California Association of Scholars, a division of the National Association of Scholars (NAS). The report is addressed to the Regents of the University of California, which has ultimate responsibility for governing the UC system, but the pathologies it diagnoses prevail throughout the country.

This is always the conclusion of the National Association of Scholars, which is anti-affirmative action, anti-multiculturalism, anti-liberal, etc.
Perhaps they are one of the few scholarly groups that's pro-education then?
So this Association laments the ability of the CA educational system to create, in your words, "great diverse thinkers," all the while, it fails to practice diverse thinking itself? And you think that is being pro-education?
In other words, when topics like state self sustenance comes up, your mouth should remain closed.
Why? I can say what I want about California.. they can't sustain themselves regardless. The economic state of where I was born has no bearing on what I can think about California. Just because Michigan has had some terrible things happen because of a liberal governor does not change the fact that California has some of the most messed up views in the country and it put them underwater.
Also, the west side of Michigan is quite nice.. even outside of the center of Detroit is doing pretty good. Thank god for the conservative side of the state saving it.
