I fear this will end in disaster for the Texas Highway Patrol. Cops fight paramiltray groups. Thes bad guys are ready and willing to fight. I fear the Texans have the wrong boats. They need Swift type boats. I fear the Cartel with strike very quickly with RPG's and this will be the end of the Texas Navy

"Texas Navy" fights drug traffickers' escapes on the Rio Grande

After the drug runners abandon their vehicles in the river, other cartel members in boats rush in to save their bales of drugs, and whisk them back to the Mexican side of the river, determined to get the drugs back to Mexico.

"The cartels that are controlling these situations -- they're very ruthless," Goble said. "Their life literally depends on them either getting the load to where it's going, or safely getting it back."

Police say the drug traffickers have made these splashdown getaways at least 65 times in the past three years. Texas police don't have the boats they need to stop them -- and the drug runners know it.

"They know once they get back into the water, they're safe," Goble. Said. "All they gotta do is swim home."

The Texas-style solution? Launching its own mini-Navy. Six boats, each equipped with multiple machine guns, will soon be patrolling a 54-mile stretch of the Rio Grande.

End the drug war and no more $$$ will need to be wasted in that direction.

EXACTLY!

It will take Napolitanonuts just a Minnesota minute to put a stop to any attempts by uppity Texas to actually enforce the laws.

I see the full weight of the White House coming down on the side of the poor Mexicans actually having to get their backs wet to evade capture for engaging in an illegal enterprise.

These are 'Swift' style boats. They have dual 50-cal belt fed gun turrets both fore and aft, armor protection on the bridge and 40mm grenade launchers. The only thing the DPS needs is to arm their patrol helicopters like their UH-60's & MD-600N's w/ 20mm cannons and to permit fire authority to prevent those boats from coming over to the U.S. side to retrieve the drugs OR leave if they've already arrived.

Better yet: Go Ugly Early and call in the Warthogs. A few thousand rounds of 30mm depleted uranium from the vulcan would put a stop to the horse crap real quick. Just strafe the entire Rio Grande from Brownsville to El Paso.

Yeah, but their loiter time is atrocious & 30mm is a little over the top (cost v. ROI) when 20mm is more than enough for protection & interdiction. Also 30mm depleted uranium is un-godly expensive.

You are right, a drone can loiter forever and is capable of carrying a variety of weapons.

10-4. But it only takes a couple cartel gunboats getting decimated and they will get the picture
