Mississippi: existing to make Alabama look enlightened. All this will do is push people to get abortions in other states. One would think they would know that but it's Mississippi so they don't have the brains to figure it out.
I'm sure they are very much aware of this. But they are trying to do what they are able to do.
If they succeed in making Mississipi abortion-free, that's only 49 states left to go.

If you give the government the power to create rights then there is no end to the power that it can wield. The only way to live freely is to understand that we are born with certain rights - that cannot be taken away from us - and that those rights are few in number - and the only role of government is to secure them. Among them are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Many of our other rights are identified and protected by the first ten amendments. The reason most people never think about repealing those is because they recognize that much of what is protected by them are unalienable.
There is no exhaustive list - but neither is there carte blanche to make up rights - the ones protected by the Constitution early on are what people commonly understood to be considered as rights. People have been sold a false idea of the role of government - and our history is no longer accurately taught in America. Also - the word "right" is misunderstood - and is used many times when it is inappropriate - sometimes it can lose its meaning when abused.
Making up a right to privacy does not fall under the role of securing rights.
So to listen to you, we need to start thinking of getting privileges for our lives, not rights. So people need to quit thinking of health care as a right. Instead, it is a privilege granted to you in return for having enough money to pay for it.
So how are you defending forcing someone to bring in a child they don't want or can't take care of? I don't even care that that's your position, but it makes you sick that MS is one of the states w/ the weakest network of social services/safety nets in the country and they pull this *****.
You either care about life or you don't. You can't force someone to bring in a new life, then wash your hands of that responsibility when that person can't or worse, wont' take care of that life.
It's punishment, nothing more, nothing less. Most 'pro life' people couldn't give a rip about the 'unborn babies' and it shows by their lack of interest once they're born.
They just want to make sure the woman is punished for having sex. For enjoying sex. Which is why they have the 'It's only ok in the cases of rape and incest'. The woman didn't enjoy the sex, so she's allowed to have the abortion, even though the 'baby' didn't choose to be conceived.
If a woman wants to induce a miscarriage, she should have the right to do so without busybodies getting involved.
Oh you mean like Chile where abortion is a felony with up to 10 years in prison? Putting Women is prison hasn't reduced the abortion rate in that country.

No, it just makes it accessible and SAFE, most importantly.
If we already know women are going to get abortions, irregardless of the law, why would you make them more dangerous?
Abortions are no less frequent in a place where they're illegal, so we need to make sure they're safe if women are going to get them anyway.
It's a very difficult decision for a woman to make, you make it seem like they're just skipping around and then suddenly think 'Hey, I should get an abortion!! Weeee!!!' which is not the case.
