My old place was around 300 or so. It's not that bad when you're living in a major city.

Larger than a jail cell, but smaller than mobile home, ministudios will reflect city's changing demographics. They'll be big enough for bathroom, kitchen, sleeping and dining areas

how about bloomberg giving up his mansion and showing the people he is supposed to be representing and move into one of these 300 sqft apartments for the duration of his term.

How about Romney giving up his trust funds, mansions, and cars to prove to the people he's one of them?

The premise of this thead is a hyperbolic lie; the mayor does not WANT single people to live in a 300 sf apartment. He's trying to make it more affordable for people to live in NYC. I don't think the 'government' is involved at all, he's just trying to stir up interest in this concept with developers.

It never ceases to amaze me that people can praise the capitalistic system when it's a republican who is wealthy, saying they earned what they have, etc., etc., etc. But when it's a dem (or someone they don't like) then, well, see mw's post above.

If you truly believed in a capitalistic form of government, the above thought would never even enter your head, no matter who the wealthy person was.

You first, Mr. Mayor.

The rest of the city is supposed to live like peasants while he continues his lavish lifestyle.

Why to the people of NYC keep electing this jackass? Sorry if I insulted any actual jackasses.

Why not just live in a van? It would be bigger and nicer than these matchboxes.

Why all the Bloomberg hate? I think it's great he's encouraging the construction of safe, affordable housing here in the city. Plenty of people here already live in illegal (and often unsafe) subdivided apartments smaller than that.

Maybe most of these posters have never been to the City, or even a city with more than a 100,000 population. Looking at pictures is not quite the same as BEING THERE!

This proposal is an attempt to create affordable housing for people just starting their careers in one of the financial capitals of the world. Not a bad idea. BTW I think this only applies to Manhatten Island.

300 square feet? I don't even think I could fit my sewing/prop stuff in something that small - let alone have room for a bed.
