All Olympians stand on the shoulders of those who lifted them. We’ve already cheered the Olympians, let’s also cheer the parents, coaches, and communities. All right! [pumps fist].”
Saying people should thank their parents and siblings is quite a bit different from saying people should thank government...

LOL. I notice you Romney defenders all ignoring the part where he acknowledges the venues, built with taxpayer money, that gave the athletes a place to practice and compete. Where would all of these Olympians be without these community venues, many of which were built with YOUR tax dollars. Why aren't you outraged by that? Selective reasoning, maybe?
The difference is this, those athletes are almost all children.. usually under 18, only a few are over 18 or even over 21. They didn't pay for the venues built, they didn't pay for generally even their own schooling. So they do OWE their success to all those who paid for those things instead of the athletes themselves. They are NOT self made.. yes, they work their asses off, but their success is directly financed by other people, from sponsors (usually businesses), their parents, communities and schools. So they do owe their success and the ability to go AFTER their dreams to all of those people.
Businesses/entrepenuers PAY FOR EVERYTHING!! We aren't given the roads, we've paid for them. We aren't given our education, we've paid for it. No one is sponsoring our entire livelihoods, we've built our businesses from the ground up and even when we've borrowed money, we have to make a successful business to pay it back!
Do you see the difference now? Or are you still so partisan blind that you still can't understand the difference between a child who is given everything to focus on playing a sport and a business person who has to GIVE everything to make a business successful?
Even more disquieting is just how readily those who would otherwise ignore Romney have rallied to his defense. It seems that party loyalty at the expense of the country is not a Republican trait found only in the Congress.
It's either that, or the GOP base is made up of the most gullible people on earth.

What a socialist! How dare he suggest that if these athletes were successful, they didn't get there on their own. That they--gasp!--had help getting there! "Communities built venues"--would that be with taxpayer money, by chance? How un-American.
Big difference between the two. For one thing,everyone knows that no man/woman/transgender is an island. of course they had people who helped them succeed/ PEOPLE,not the government. It's the same speech. Obama said somewhere along the way there was a teacher who helped you, and Romney said the same thing.
