Libs are even obtuse enough to be blatantly open about discriminating against a particular minority when it comes to paper reviews, securing tenure, etc.

Quote:
More than a third of the respondents said they would discriminate against the conservative candidate. One respondent wrote in that if department members “could figure out who was a conservative, they would be sure not to hire them.”

From the article:

Mr. Inbar, who volunteered for the Obama campaign in 2008, cautions that the finding reflects only what respondents said they would do — not necessarily what they actually would do in real life.

A lot of conservatives would discriminate against liberals in the hiring process. Not saying that it's right, but both sides are equally guilty of it.

Cite?

Woulda, coulda, shoulda...

Seems like libs aren't exactly tolerant of minorities as they would claim.

I would agree here. It's too bad that nobody wants to clean up their own back yards.

Now that doesn't mean you have to simply accept everything.

Just another reminder: do not add any academic colleagues on facebook or any other social media where you opine on politics. Keep your political affiliation very private, and if pressed, either lie that you're a liberal or claim a general sense of neutrality. Trust me, it's worth it if you want to work in academia after graduation.

I have never been at a job interview during which someone asked me my political affiliation.

Me either but it seems more and more employers are asking for things like your Facebook accounts and checking your history on the internet.

I saw one of the first court cases knocking these requirements down which will be a good thing.

In academia, you're in grad school for between 3-8 years. You surround yourself with people you're writing papers and journal articles with and conducting experiments. Many of these are late nights and casual conversation comes up while snarfing down some cheap chinese food at midnight. In my delirious state during paper submission deadlines, I've come close to coming out of the closet, but have kept my mouth shut successfully when the moment of truth came.

Browse some of the Chick-Fil-A threads where Dan Cathy has clearly admitted he hires married couples and people who follow traditional family values over those who do not (single people, gay people, divorced people).

How is liberals not wanting to hire conservatives related to not being tolerant of minorities? Are you claiming conservatives are a minority?
