I have been hearing more and more about Socialism and Communism in America lately. More than I ever have in my lifetime. Socialism and Communism used to be just words to me that described the government of other countries where life was not as good as in the good ol USA. So, I didn't pay much attention and really couldn't tell you what the difference between them was. But, now I am taking a hard look at them and learning about what they are and what their goals are. I am first wondering if others are hearing about them more too. Second, do you think that these ideas are really creeping into our American society and government? Thirdly, is there anyone on this MB that does believe in Socialism or Communism or knows people who admittedly are a Socialist or Communist? Thanks in advance for any feedback.

No, the high-water mark of socialist thought in America was the 1890s to the 1910s. In 1912 the Socialist Party got 6 percent of the Presidential vote. They soon after petered out and even in the throes of the Great Depression in 1932 they only scraped 2.2%.

Politics have been drifting rightward in the U.S. since 1979, with occasional slight corrections back toward the center. The old socialist program advocated nationalization (public ownership) of banks, transportation, and everything else to speak of. Nowadays not even Bernie Sanders seriously advocates that.

The left has gone from wishing to control the means of production to just seeking to steal the output of production. The economies of the West are closer to fascism than socialism.

Socialism is the first step to communism. If you want to know what socialism is, just look at everything obama has done to the country. Destroy business' and get as many on unemployment as possible.Promote welfare and illegal immigration, close the power plants, give everyone free HC, paid for by the few who still are employed. When everyone depends on the government to exist, they are easier to control. The government will control everything, and you will need permission to buy a product.
We will be that third world country you imagined, and obama dreams about.
I could spend an hour showing how obama wants us to be North Korea, but you see it every day, I don't need to explain.
If that corrupt SOB is re-elected, this country will not survive...

Really creeping in? No, they've been in our government and society for more than a century.

Understand that today the oligarchy which is our federal government operates a fascist economy and neo-Marxist entitlement and redistributive wealth polices as well as a war against religion.

The OP should read about the 10 planks of Communism and see how may are already in place.
