Been in blue and red states, found you could find attractive women and cold Budweiser in both.

My county has been labeled one the most conervative county in the nation.
Most conservative counties in U.S. | Tennessee county tops list - GovPro article

Williamson County, TN
2008 Results:
McCain 68%
Obama 30%

It wealthy, well educated, great schools, low taxes.

Percent with college degree: 52% (Average in US: 23%) So my county is much more educated than the nation.

Income: Consistently ranked one of the 20 wealthiest counties in the country:
#17 in 2011

List of highest-income counties in the United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

5 of the 8 high schools consistently make the best high schools list. The school my children will attend is #100.

Plus there is tons of creativity here. Lots of famous song writers, singers, actors, sports stars. My youngest did Mommy and Me gymnastics with Nicole Kidman's child. My kids get song-writers workshops at their public school from award winning song writers.
It is a truly fantastic place to live. Only thing missing is a beach.

Plus one for attractive women. Minus one for Budweiser.
So what you're saying is that there are good things and bad things about every state of this union.

Lived in both. You will find ignorant people in both. I liked the food down south better than up north.
I like the easy going nature of the people in Wyoming.
I detest the driving habits in New Jersey.
I would say it just about is a toss up.

What I am saying is quality of life standards cannot really be measured since we all pursue different routes in our pursuit of happiness. I prefer low tax states so I can maximize my individual pursuit of happiness.

Now what are the names of the county and city next door to you, and what is that city so well known for that is out of then norm for Texas? What could that have to do with the high incomes and "creativity" of where you live? And would you have the same wealth if you were a suburb of Lubbock?

Well that eliminates:
NY
NJ
Con
CA
and Wis
and in that order of the highest taxed states in the union. LOL

Interesting responses, but I'm talking about state-wide quality-of-life standards. Of course, there are pockets of nice and bad in every state, but the overall situation of the state shows a much clearer picture.
So, can someone give an actual answer to the original question?
