It was bound to happen eventually.

Hamas is stoking this fire, not Israel. I'm not fan of Israel, and I think we should have far less support for them nationally then we currently do, but in this they are in the right. Hamas is starting this crap.
You do realize 70 Palestinians have been killed this year by Israel WITHOUT Hamas provocation, right? This isn't about Hamas. This is about Israel's lack of recognition for human rights. Among the dead are a BBC reporter's 11-month-old baby and a few boys and girls under 8 years old. This is not acceptable.

Fact is Israel withdrew from Gaza as part of the "Disengagement Plan in 2005. For more details of this go to: http://www.mfa.gov.il/MFA/Peace+Proc...-2005.htm#doc1 Israeli settlements in Gaza which were set up just after the 1967 war were removed. In addition Israeli troops were withdrawn.

Hamas thought Israel withdraw was due to its resistance and since taking power have been hitting Israel with missiles and it has been a almost daily occurrence since Hamas took over. So as a result there is no surprise that Israel has hit back.

What is fascinating is that the Taliban have never shot a fighter jet down over Afghanistan with their heat seeker missiles, but these Palestinians managed to do it over Gaza.

Maybe the Israelis are underestimating their enemy and think that having superior airpower will be sufficient in suppressing this uprising.

[see Lebanon for details]

That is what you should expect if you squat on land that you do not own and build a house on it.

The LA TIMES mentions the shoot down of the F-16. One of the comments says the Palestinians took the pilot hostage. I presume he ejected...................latimes.com/news/world/worldnow/la-fg-wn-rockets-lands-near-jerusalem-20121116,0,1117397.story#tugs_story_display

Violence does not bring peace.

Peace.

My premise is that it is just to defend ones self with violence in order to protect ones self from extinction.

It isn't a difficult concept. Either you do as I mentioned, or you die. If you choose to die rather than defend yourself, then you aren't worthy of the responsibility of living. A person who would allow life to be taken without defense does not respect it.
