Call me old fashioned, but I think you ought to be able to say what ever you want, regardless of whether or not it hurts someone's feelings... If you want to call someone a racist name... go for it. If you want to say their mother is a prostitute... go for it. People need to get over their selfish attitudes of it's all about "MY" feelings. This is what we get when we keep bringing up folks in a world where everyone got a trophy.
GOD gave us free will. That free will was the undoing Adam and Eve (not Steve for you weirdos out there). With that free will we are able to say whatever we want, and as long as no one is ACTUALLY harmed (like from a stampede caused by yelling "Fire!" in a crowded theater) by the speech, then it's all good.
I don't want to hear a thing about how you were offended, or this or that person can be offended, because frankly, we can ALL be offended if we try hard enough. It is high time we get over our stupid little narcissistic delusions of grandeur. It's high time we each grow a pair and quit reacting based upon the high volumes of political correctness induced estrogen in our bodies.
NOW... go make me a sammich you estrogen laden, water retaining, bloated whiner!
well, I am gay and I have never reported anybody. If someone were to make a remark that was hostile or desparaging about gays or other minority coworkers. I would talk to that person first before i reported it and let them know how i felt and ask them to stop doing it in the future. Even though I'm gay and a liberal, I wouldn't want someone to actually get fired from their job and lose their livelyhood because i care about others wellbeing, even people i don't like very much.
If it got to be too much though it would create a hostile work environment and if the person didn't stop I"d probably report them. This has never happened though.
If someone were talking about gays being degenerates and talking about how gays shouldn't be able to marry, I'd talk to them about it. since i don't feel that i'm a degenrate and i would like to be able to get married someday.
I have black, native american and hispanic friends as well as other white friends, and I'd feel bad if somoene were making hostile remarks about their race.
I also don't like it when gay people bash people who are straight either just for being straight.

no you shouldn't. everyone in the workplace should feel comfortalbe being there doing their job. doing your job is enough without being in a hostile workplace.
One of my co-workers was reported for using the N-word and was promptly fired after being with the company for 12 years. He had a shoddy work record, and management had covered for him multiple times in the past. But that was a bridge too far.
I had a black engineer come to me and registered a complaint about one of my technicians making racist remarks. I stopped it immediately, because I know the next step in the process would be me getting fired. My company had strict policies on that type stuff.
A woman at my husband's former place of employment was reprimanded for telling ****** jokes to another employee who was of Polish descent. I think she was eventually fired for creating a hostile work environment because she kept deliberately doing things like that.

See your problem is you don't want free speech. A person can say whatever they want. And other people can say, hey I have a problem with what you said and here is how you will be dealt with for saying it because it violates the law or violates the rules of the company.
So by all means, a person is free to insult whomever that person chooses. What that person doesn't have the right to control how people respond and the consequences of their words.

Because it's always about someone's feelings... huh? Now go fix me a sammich!
I was going to say something but I might "hurt" somebody's feelings
