Of course, by definition, genuine conservatism (not the laissez-faire free-market liberalism idiots here miscall conservatism) values tradition and a civilization's history, so inevitably a truly conservative utopia would resemble a better, improved version of our own (or at least, someone's) past.

Conversely, a genuinely conservative utopia would have to have a palpable connection to an existing society: in the strict sense of "utopia", as in "a place which doesn't exist" or "no-place", there can be no conservative utopia, because for a genuine conservative, imagining a made-up land with no traditions or historical mortar to hold it together would be anathema.

Well, the countries you mentioned are socially conservative, certainly, if not economically so. However, they are also right of the US. Surely you wouldn't suggest they're left of the US?

It is extremely easy to cite 'socialist' countries (those where taxes are high and where governments are rather large) which are really quite nice: Scandanavia, much of Western Europe, Canada, etc.

What I would like to see are examples of conservative countries that are so great to live in. What I'm asking is for posters on here to cite countries that are examples of conservative utopias.

The United States

No but seriously. The US is the most conservative country in the west.

It may come to mind but only to a mind that is totally unaware of the aggressive involvement of the government of Singapore in economic development.

Yes, Singapore is highly "statist," but it has a veneer of free-market fundamentalism (i.e. low taxes and free trade), which is all the RWNJs really care about anyway.

Right. I was surprised to learn they have socialized health care.
That takes Singapore off the list, then.

Actually, it may not be at all what the laissez-faire liberals who call themselves conservative had in mind, but there's nothing in genuine conservative theory to stand in the way of government support for economic development.

Western Europe is failing quickly. Spain, Ireland, Italy, Greece and Portugal are all in bad shape I don't think either of these can be compared to the US.

But if we continue down this path of social regression, we are doomed to be one of those countries headed for destruction.
I'm curious as to what these "conservative principles" are. I don't believe we would be anywhere near our level of development if we took conservative approaches to investment in infrastructure, science, civil liberties, etc. Conservatism has been on the opposite side of many compelling issues [civil war, universal health care, civil rights, marriage equality, etc.]

Except for their oil industry, Mexico seems like a more conservative nation. They have lower taxes on the wealthy, less social benefits, and fewer government regulations, plus they believe in powerful local governments (granted this leads to more bribes needed).

Gay marriage and universal healthcare is in no way relatable to slavery and the civil war. Societies generally always move left though until they collapse or fall into totalitarianism and it all starts over. Its the same thing as the fact the universe is always progressing towards disorder. It's the natural way of things.

If you deny this why is it the more "advanced" we as a society get the more we want to return to our animal instincts?
