Here are the gun laws that Nazi Germany had on the books for its citizens. It was a revised version of 'The Law on Firearms and Ammunition of April 12, 1928'. That law was enacted by a left-center government hostile to the National Socialists. The government was headed by Chancellor Wilhelm Marx. Pay attention to #6.6.. Here we go with the 'German Weapons Law (Waffengesetz) of March 18, 1938'.:
The Nazi's:
1.) Handguns may be purchased only on submission of a Weapons Acquisition Permit (Waffenerwerbschein), which must be used within one year from the date of issue. Muzzle- loading handguns are exempted from the permit requirement. [The 1928 law had required a permit for the purchase of long guns as well, but the National Socialists dropped this requirement.]
2.) Holders of a permit to carry weapons (Waffenschein) or of a hunting license do not need a Weapons Acquisition Permit in order to acquire a handgun.
3.) A hunting license authorizes its bearer to carry hunting weapons and handguns.
4.) Firearms and ammunition, as well as swords and knives, may not be sold to minors under the age of 18 years. [The age limit had been 20 years in the 1928 law.]
5.) Whoever carries a firearm outside of his dwelling, his place of employment, his place of business, or his fenced property must have on his person a Weapons Permit (Waffenschein). A permit is not required, however, for carrying a firearm for use at a police-approved shooting range.
6.) A permit to acquire a handgun or to carry firearms may only be issued to persons whose trustworthiness is not in question and who can show a need for a permit. In particular, a permit may not be issued to:
1. persons under the age of 18 years;
2. legally incompetent or mentally retarded persons;
3. Gypsies or vagabonds;
4. persons under mandatory police supervision [i.e., on parole] or otherwise temporarily without civil rights;
5. persons convicted of treason or high treason or known to be engaged in activities hostile to the state;
6. persons who for assault, trespass, a breach of the peace, resistance to authority, a criminal offense or misdemeanor, or a hunting or fishing violation were legally sentenced to a term of imprisonment of more than two weeks, if three years have not passed since the term of imprisonment.
7.) The manufacture, sale, carrying, possession, and import of the following are prohibited:
1. "trick" firearms, designed so as to conceal their function (e.g., cane guns and belt-buckle pistols);
2. any firearm equipped with a silencer and any rifle equipped with a spotlight;
3. cartridges with .22 caliber, hollow-point bullets.
That is the essence. Numerous other provisions of the law relate to firearms manufacturers, importers, and dealers; to acquisition and carrying of firearms by police, military, and other official personnel; to the maximum fees which can be charged for permits (3 Reichsmark); to tourists bringing firearms into Germany; and to the fines and other penalties to be levied for violations.
Now here is the United States 'Gun Control Act Of 1968':
Under the GCA, selling of firearms to certain categories of individuals is prohibited.
(d) It shall be unlawful for any person to sell or otherwise dispose of any firearm or ammunition to any person knowing or having reasonable cause to believe that such person -
(1) is under indictment for, or has been convicted in any court of, a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year
(2) is a fugitive from justice;
(3) is an unlawful user of or addicted to any controlled substance (as defined in section 102 of the Controlled Substances Act (21 U.S.C. 802));
(4) has been adjudicated as a mental defective or has been committed to any mental institution;
(5) who, being an alien - (A) is illegally or unlawfully in the United States; or (B) except as provided in subsection (y)(2), has been admitted to the United States under a nonimmigrant visa (as that term is defined in section 101(a)(26) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1101(a)(26)));
(6) who (!2) has been discharged from the Armed Forces under dishonorable conditions;
(7) who, having been a citizen of the United States, has renounced his citizenship;
(8) is subject to a court order that restrains such person from harassing, stalking, or threatening an intimate partner of such person or child of such intimate partner or person, or engaging in other conduct that would place an intimate partner in reasonable fear of bodily injury to the partner or child, except that this paragraph shall only apply to a court order that - (A) was issued after a hearing of which such person received actual notice, and at which such person had the opportunity to participate; and (B)(i) includes a finding that such person represents a credible threat to the physical safety of such intimate partner or child; or (ii) by its terms explicitly prohibits the use, attempted use, or threatened use of physical force against such intimate partner or child that would reasonably be expected to cause bodily injury; or (9) has been convicted in any court of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence.
Exceptions as quoted from DEFINITIONS GCA Sec.921 section B
(ii) A person shall not be considered to have been convicted of such an offense for purposes of this chapter if the conviction has been expunged or set aside, or is an offense for which the person has been pardoned or has had civil rights restored (if the law of the applicable jurisdiction provides for the loss of civil rights under such an offense) unless the pardon, expungement, or restoration of civil rights expressly provides that the person may not ship, transport, possess, or receive firearms.
Many states automatically reinstate gun ownership rights upon completion of sentence, some depend on the crime convicted of, and others have a petition process. Those convicted of a federal offense have no remedy for disability.
According to a 21 Sep 2011 "Open Letter to All Federal Firearms Licensees" from ATF, holders of state-issued medical marijuana cards are automatically "prohibited persons" under 18 U.S.C 922(g)(3) and "shipping, transporting, receiving or possessing firearms or ammunition" by a medical marijuana card holder is a violation.[3]
Additionally, 18 USC 922(x) generally prohibits persons under 18 years of age from possessing handguns or handgun ammunition with certain exceptions for employment, target practice, education, and a handgun possessed while defending the home of the juvenile or a home in which they are an invited guest
What exactly is the point of this thread? Certainly hope it's not to repeat the lie oftentimes heard on here about how 1938 Germany "confiscated all the guns."
You can be proud all you want but the power of the NRA and their lobbyists in Washington is diminishing and may very well may be done as we speak.
The NRA is not diminishing at all. It is diminished only in the eyes of the media and those the left opposed to guns. The National Rifle Association, while staying mostly quiet in the immediate aftermath of the mass shooting in Connecticut, has registered an average of 8,000 new members a day since the tragedy. So at 8,000 per day, a 1 year membership costs $35.00 and at the very minimum, the NRA is adding $280,000 per day to the war chest. That equals $1.96 million per week and $58.8 million in 1 month. That's if IF they keep adding members at this pace and IF each member joins for the minimum 1 year membership. We can also be sure that PLENTY of individuals, organizations, and industries are donating extra money to protect their interests. that means it's pretty safe to say that the NRA will have added to their war chest in the next month somewhere in the neighborhood of $75 million dollars.
When I think of the bad things committed by Hitler I think of genocide, concentration camps, invading other countries, when conservatives think of bad things committed by Hitler they mention gun control.
NO, actually you can go to the library of congress and they will show you the letter from dodd asking for a direct translation of the nazi law so it can be made into a american gun control law.
