The difference being that the British NRA is far less fanatical and discusses issues on a more rational level.

More idiocy par for the course. If you actually believe that the constitution, which says no law shall be made restricting a citizen's right to bear arms, means that no law should be made restricting a citizen's right to bear arms then that liberal will call you an extremist. Anybody who doesn't want to raise taxes is an irrational right wing extremist. Anybody who doesn't want to shut down coal power plants is an irrational extremist. Anybody who doesn't want to open the border up to unrestricted immigration is an irrational extremist. Anybody who doesn't want unborn children killed in the womb is an irrational extremist. It's the standard operating procedure for liberals to characterize anyone and everyone who doesn't agree with them as an extremist.

Sorry, but you have no room whatsoever to talk about what is rational and what isn't. There's nothing rational about gun control. There are two types of people who support gun control - the liars and idiots. It requires either an exceptional level of dishonesty to claim that the constitution does not guarantee a right to bear arms when it says exactly that in plain English, or it takes an exceptional level of stupidity to honestly believe it doesn't say what it clearly says.

In either case, it does not take an irrational fanatic to simply read the constitution and do what it says. It simply shows another level of these liberals' lack of ethics that they feel the need to demonize anybody who simply wants to follow the constitution.

"Extremism" is really just a lazy person's catch-all that often becomes devoid of meaning under scrutiny. Is it "extremism" to spend $1 million on blackberry phones to get people to quit smoking? Extremism to spend $600,000 in order to boost "Facebook likes" at the State Dept? Or is it extremism to oppose such spending? If anything those who support such spending are the extremists, but really that word is just not a useful descriptor.

The whole "extremist" meme is just a high brow version of name-calling used by people who want to say something that sounds intelligent, but find themselves lacking in ability to debate ideas and policies.

An ideal business opportunity to boost more gun sales for their donors! The same right wing propagandizers discourage from talking about stricter gun control, funding mental health programs and ignore bullying that goes in schools and colleges that really do contribute to violence a lot more than movies.
Facist. Got any negroes you want us to round up while you are at it?

Is anyone forced to join? I don't think so.

You'll have to convince people not to join. Lots of luck!

The troll that started this thread must be very happy it's still getting traction a couple years later. He knows full well that there is no way he, or anyone else has any ability to shut down the NRA.

In point of fact, it's gotten bI goer and more powerful. I remember when it was a big deal when it crossed 3 million members. It has now cracked 5 million.

Yes, a relatively small number of gangs members do commit most of the gun murders each year in the US.

And rather than seriously address the root cause, it's instead blame shifted to political rivals and people that live in the parts of the country with murder rate is comparable to places like Canada and most of Europe.

And when organizations like the NRA oppose this false meme, they are blamed for preventing progress when in reality it's a hollow argument from the start.

Hard to have a rationale common-sense discussion when you have the opposition leading off with that. They are every bit as hard headed and disingenuous as the NRA.
