If every official who had a mistaken opinion was barred from public service we wouldn't have any officials.
Iraq's WMDs were/are a pretty big issue. If Obama didn't trust Clapper's expertise, he wouldn't have installed him as his Director of National Intelligence.

The thing that bothers me is why is that question important?

We gave Iraq all of its, weapons of mass destruction.
The question is why did we go to war with Iraq?
Unless, Saddam's announcement that Iraq would sell oil in euros only was the true "weapon of mass destruction".
In the Clinton administration they just talked about the weapons of mass destruction of Saddam and how that something had to be done about it.. Was Clinton a liar too?

IT IS AMAZING WHAT SOMEONE CAN BE SAID TO HAVE SAID WHEN SOMEONE TAKES WHAT THEY HAVE SAID OUT OF CONTEXT, TRUNCATES PORTION, ETC. Liars like Bill O'Reilly do it all the time and it is sickening.
In each of these statements the compiler of these quotes mischieviously sniped portions of the full text to fool the reader. These quotes, when edited carefully, give the impression that the speaker was favoring military action against Iraq. However, when you read the full text, the speaker was saying the exact opposite. This is the worst kind of dishonestly.
Examples:
Yesterday, Clinton reiterated that he would prefer a "diplomatic solution" to the standoff with Iraq but added, "One way or the other, we are determined to deny Iraq the capacity to develop weapons of mass destruction and the missiles to deliver them. That is our bottom line." Clinton met with Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright, just back from a trip to Europe and several Arab countries to outline the U.S. position, and is to discuss Iraq with British Prime Minister Tony Blair, who arrived in Washington yesterday.
