“My mouth dropped,” Smith said. “I was blown away. I couldn’t believe that they would want my kids to pick out the difference between a bigger person compared to a smaller person"
This is political correctness near its zenith.
University Place is near Tacoma, and thus the school district is run by liberals.
Apparently, these libs don't want children to learn.
P.S. - I am a man who appreciates a somewhat plump female body.
Boy the liberals have really headed north and infested the entire west coast. Destroy one state and move on like locusts to destroy another. Where is Lex Luthor when you need him?? Obama aint superman like the libs think so his evil plan should go through without a hitch.
Whatever happened to schools teaching kids how to read and do math?
I suspect it was a vocabulary lesson on comparison words. So while this idiot mom is focusing on the meaning of fat. The teacher probably used this word among a lot if words to drill the lesson home.
The political views of the idiot mother, who is probably a chunky monkey herself and hence that's why she was offended, were never mentioned.
Funny thing is when ever a right-wing idiot shows how brainless conservatives are while admitting they are conservative, it's "well...that's not a REAL conservative"

I didn't read all of this but am getting the gist of what this post was about. I think this whole idea of having this child learn which child was obese, etc. is so wrong is so many ways. It isn't a question of what political "drive" is behind this liberal or not, it is so, so wrong to teach our kids that a heavy person is "different" and pick out the heavy person.
I have battled my weight and fellow onlookers who found it amusing my whole life. I have endured ridicule by everyone from my parents to my ex husband and more and life as a somewhat obese woman has not been an easy place to be. Strangely enough, I never did lack for dates as a teen and have been married 3 times, my present husband is 10 years younger and finds me very "Rubenesque"..LOL
About 5 years ago, I did find myself at 304 lbs and am only 5'2" tall so I was quite the butterball for a time. I had been seeing a cardiologist for an upper thoracic anurysem that I had had surgery for and we talked at length about weight and me perhaps going to Weight Watchers. I have lost close to 100 pounds plus..am still losing and intend to get to a desirable weight for my short stature.
Bottom line...we should be teaching our children TOLERANCE, COMPASSION and UNDERSTANDING with a the willingness to help perhaps the chubby little kid who sits and cries while all the other kids make fun. Obesity would end if the naturally fast metabolizing kids would pitch in and perhaps take that run or walk with a chubby kid, ride bikes with that chubby kid...be a friend.

Who says she is right wing?
As a Conservative, I do teach my child that everyone is different.
All children are taught, "which one is different", throughout life.
I wonder what would happen if this kid called one of her bigger classmates "fat"?
