how about they help too?
wages we earn usually are based, partly on education and partly on the services the person gives: we live in a capitolistic country that has been pointed out to you over and over. This means, they are entitled to what they can get. Do they make too much? Well, that depends. Do you have any idea about mal practice insurance, the cost of their education, the cost of running an office, be it dental, medical of legal? Do you have any idea how many hours some of them work? We have just been through some serious health problems with my husband. We have seen how hard some of his doctors work. They get to the office at 8am and are calling us with results, checking on health, etc, sometimes at 7pm.

yes, I do think and most people do, CEOs are way overpaid, but I don't always feel that way about the examples you are giving...Thank God for caring doctors and nurses here in AR and many other places in our country. I guess you don't live here or you would better understand.

You say $60,000, obviously you don't even know how much they have paid for their education? You also do not seem to understand the difference between min wage jobs that are meant to be held by students, part timers, etc and jobs that are careers.

So much fail in the OP. People will earn what the free market will bear. If you don't like what you make then learn a skill that is actually in demand. Don't be mad that someone else can provide a skill that is worth 50k or 100k or 500k.
I'll let you be the first person in line to see a surgeon that makes 50k.

I think you really believe this, don't you? Well, I happen to believe anyone who is making min wage could be making a lot more if they really tried..of if they were willing to get training..As has been said over and over, min wage isn't the same as a living wage and isn't meant to be..

I'll tell ya what? how would it be if everyone with advanced degrees cut their salaries back to $60,000, at the same time, the government would take food stamps away from the working poor, no more walking into the ER and getting treatments for minor illnesses, no more tax credits for families making under X $s, no more section 8 housing, no more school lunch and breakfast programs and no more pre K for kids in certain districts and states? How does that work for you?

I would be fine with that because the Welfare State is merely a tool for maintaining the status quo, and the rigged wage and opportunity structure (or lack thereof).

No loyalty - it's just money these days.

Personal gain is encouraged as the number 1 reason for living.

No wonder most countries are in such a mess.

how can that be done?

sounds good, and sometimes seems that politicians try it - but in the end price always seems to win out.

how about having disincentives for outsourcing abroad or some kind of modern day tariff/immigrant wage system?
