I have very mixed feelings about Hugo Chavez... I'll have more respect for him if he loses the next election, or the one after, and cedes power peacefully. Or if he voluntarily resigns within the next 8 years... or maybe just if he never wins with "95% of the vote." The Time article's a good article. Seems pretty even-handed.

GregW;1893152]Doc1 – the government does not, and never will, rule my life. If you are one of the people that “will do whatever it takes to rule” then we may just have to discuss your lack of morality.
I'm going to assume you've never really lived under a real totalitarian regime e.g. Cuba. If you did they, in all likelyhood, would rule your life. They don't appreciate dissenters and prove it with jailings, beatings and, sometimes, death.

My point was, before I would acquiesce to being one of the cared for masses under such a govt, I would try first to be part of the apparatus. They've always got it much better than those that they rule. And they do rule.

I see no need to discuss my morality where this subject is concerned because I'm never moving to Venezuela and I don't see a Chavez situation happening here in the US. I play by the rules within the system that I'm used to and I'm quite comfortable with it.

Interesting side note is that Cheney was seen on TV speaking to the military servicemen the other night and spoke as if Chavez was president of Peru. Guess we’ll bomb the hell out of Peru now.

Yes, totally off-topic, but I caught that one, too. I wonder what the Peruvian President thought about the switch?

News just came out that the lawmakers in Venezuela have amended the constitution so Chavez can run again. Who wants to bet he wins the next election?

Anyone want’a bet on if our constitution gets amended so George can retain office?

I'll take piece of that. Five Benjamins say no way.

The mint is printing out new coins with president on them, do you think we could bet 5 georgies? Although there maybe some people who don’t want to use the new “georgie dollar” because of the loss in value of the currency?
