Americans travelling to other countries for surgeries (not Canada) are doing so, in many cases, because of the dramatically reduced cost. Vice versa, many foreigners come to the U.S. who can afford to pay top dollar for the BEST surgical care in the world. Of course, many of the best U.S. hospitals will seriously decline as fully 1/3 of our top surgeons and doctors have said they will retire once Obamacare is fully implemented. Because of Obamacare, the following article based on studies from 2008 could probably be considered moot:
Once the government socializes our healthcare system, quality will rapidly disappear.
You are stating an opinion, predicting the future., your take . What you say IS NOT fact. Furthermore, the question is ."is Canada less free", ? Healthcare can have a lot to do with freedom , it can mean without it 30 million people in the US will not have prescribed Healthcare for example. This relinquishes their freedom , their right to a better life and the pursuit of happiness. Canada on the other hand does have universal Healthcare, has since 1959 as I recall listening to Canadian talk radio . There were at the time many people that did not understand it. The process was new and needed adjustments to work properly.. So will the system being put in place in the US., which is also new and many will take time to understand it.
So, for this reason alone Canada is MORE free than the US. Your comment about Socialism in our Healthcare network, sorry to let you in on the secret, but we have had Social Security for longer than I recall and of coarse medicare. both of which can be called social , for the people. We are a socialist Country, in many way always have been. I am surprised you did not include Communism in the mix as well.

Oh boy; you're stubborn I'll give you that!
You totally ignore responding to the embarrassing links.
What kinds of health care do you think all those "thousands" of Americans are sneakily claiming to be Canadians to get? You don't think surgeries might be on the list if they're getting it for free? They're risking prosecution to have a butt boil excised? Seems logical to you I guess.
You cannot seem to grasp the concept that Canadian hospitals are offering wonderful up-to-date surgery among all other forms of treatment. Just one example; that of the surgery the famous Canadian Politician went south to get in a warmer climate being availbe in Canada a full 5 years prior to him needing it.
I live in both countries for half of each year and witness both of their abilities to deliver health care to it's citizens; ALL of it's citizens! Yours fails miserably at that little conundrum. We do not have a whole industry associated with legal adjudicators (ambulance chasers) apparently necessary to intervene on our behalf with insurance companies denying coverages either. Just watch the next advertising segmant during commercial break on ANY Channel you are viewing down there at this moment, should you desire illustration.
Now about your countries supposed medical superiority:
Holy crap! That would scare me into flying to India for my heart bypass as well.
Finally it might serve to list a few of Canada's medical breakthroughs which compares very favourably with any other country's .....especially one that's got ten times the population and resources.
Canada does not have free speech. That really ends the discussion right there. No matter what other policies there, speech is the foundation of freedom. Without the freedom to say what you want, you aren't free.
I guess the discussion just got re-opened. You really left yourself with no wriggle room, didn't you?

Makes me want to come to Canada for anything where they put you asleep ! I would contribute for the privilege. I for one am sure getting tired of the righties with their same old line about Canadian Healthcare., and with nothing to back it up.....I hate Insurance Companies !! Good care in the states is not so convenient ether as many seem to say. I know , I am 500 miles from The Mayo Clinic, the only place I would go for any serious procedures . Especially tough in a blinding snow storm, but I am glad I did ., I would not have gotten that kinda care anywhere else in between, my own Internist and ENT guy agrees with me.
