How do you know that those 18 - 26 year olds aren't reimbursing their parents for their insurance costs? What makes you think they're living with their parents, or that their parents are supporting them in other ways? Adding (or keeping someone) on your family insurance plan is a lot less expensive than trying to take out a policy on your own, which is what those early 20 somethings would have been faced with if they have a low paying job right out of school that doesn't provide health coverage.
Is that fair to society? You guys are all about fair.
Do you have some reason to think 18 -26 yr olds are getting sick in droves? Universities don't provide insurance in the tuition and part time work doesn't offer insurance (usually)..
It's less expensive than a 20 something buying an individual policy. We've priced them, and my daughters were on them before this law.
Not always. Especially if anyone has a "condition". It all depends on who you are, where you live, how much your employee charges you for insurance, and a bunch of other stuff.

statistically speaking, they are much healthier than other groups.

What's "unfair" about a 26 yo being on someone else's insurance policy? Many spouses younger than that are on someone else's policy. The policyholder is the one who is being charged, not the taxpayer.

You think it's sometimes cheaper for a 20-something to get their own policy? I seriously doubt it!

What do you mean "fair?" The insurance companies love it, because they're getting a bunch of new customers in a very low risk bracket that they would normally not have, because many 18-26 year olds simply went without insurance before the law was passed. Parents love it because they don't have to worry about their young adult children, and 18-26 year olds love it because they can purchase affordable insurance now through their parent's coverage. I don't personally handle the insurance we have for the businesses, but we have a number of families taking advantage of the program through the health coverage we offer (my 20 year old is on our plan as well), and my understanding is that it increases our group size by adding lower risk dependents, helping us to negotiate slightly lower rates per individual. It's a win win for everyone involved.
