If you go to the red light district in Amsterdam, you'll witness legal prostitution in action. Depending on your sense of ethics and aesthetics, seeing the women in the windows can be anything from "disgusting" to "great." However, even if you find prostitution personally unappealing or immoral, isn't there some value in knowing that the sex workers are being tested for disease, and aren't at risk from violence by pimps or johns?
I can't imagine an application of law (short of the death penalty, perhaps) which would eradicate the sex trade. But I found the fact that it was kept to a separate part of the city (which was easily avoidable) more sane than the even bigger cycle of misery associated with prostitution in places where it's all underground.
And, as others have stated, while there are a host of occupations with which I wouldn't want my family associated --- prostitution among them --- that doesn't mean I'd wish to criminalize every "unsavory" human proclivity.
I actually believe prostitution should be legal. However, there are posters on this board that claim wives are prostitutes and prostitutiton isok and great for society. Yet itnis not ok for their families. I found that to hypocresy

Somebody has to clean the toilets.
Somebody has to wash cars.
Somebody has to work fast food.
Somebody has to work in retail.
Somebody has to be a hooker.

All equal jobs IMO.
Maybe one of your kids or your wife or your sisters or your mother will be the hooker! Hey someone has to do it!
Like drugs;gambing and prostituion being inv favor of not having them illegal does say much other than they think its not somethig that should be illegal:IMO. Quite different from wantig to be a party to any of them. Perosnally it no;but to group people by what they don't want illegal makes little sense to me.I alos don't see a wve of making it legal any mnay palces just like Marihuana.

You never know. Hey, it is a job like every other. Maybe a son or daughter of you would make you proud
Nobody in my family works menial labor or low class jobs. Legalizing prostitution doesn't increase demand for it or the number of people involved. Engineers aren't going to start becoming prostitutes just because it is legal. The same goes for Dr's, lawyers, CPA's, financial managers, physics professors, CEO's, etc.
