Monster Oklahoma tornado kills 37

Late this afternoon, a colleague was distraught because she'd gotten a text from her mom in OKC. Several other family members haven't been heard from.

Best wishes to all in the path of the storm and sincere wishes for a speedy recovery.

What a tragedy. Another reminder that man is all but powerless to halt the fury of Mother Nature and God.

I support sending aid as quick as possible to the people affected by hurricane Sandy, and I support aid being sent to the people of Oklahoma. It shouldn't matter is someone is a conservative or liberal when Americans are in need of help from a natural disaster.

Yes, this is an American tragedy and those folks are our fellow citizens who need assistance quickly.

I cannot even begin to imagine 200 MPH winds, 90 MPH during Sandy was bad enough, stunning.

I did not see any canine units at the school or in the area maybe that is something not normally needed in tornado areas?

Is anyone in the general area of Moore OK? The last report I saw was 51 dead with tons of people still unaccounted for and/or trapped.

It usually takes a few hours to get K9 crews on scene. They generally don't use dogs to search for survivors after a storm like this, the devastation and rain will screw with scent for a while. It's easier to find people with FLIR and other technology like that.

nice post.

we certainly have been seeing some bad weather in some areas, and I can't even imagine a 2 mile wide tornado. That must have been terrifying.

there is a time for politics, but if we can't come together to help people in distress we would be a very sad little country.

we saw a lot of kindness during the hurricanes down here, even from people making trips from other states to help-and I wish those people nothing but the best and a speedy recovery (as much as they can recover if they have lost loved ones).
