I love our soldiers too. My cousin is ex military and lives in the SA area.

However I love them so much I wish they are never sent to dangerous regions of the world unnecessarily.
Unfortunately this has not been the case in the last 2 decades.

Ft Sam began in the 1840's. Kelly AFB was the home of Military Aviation with Billy Mitchell, Kate Stinson, Lt. Geo. Kelly[Kelly AFB's name sake] died in 1911 in a military aircraft.

Lackland AFB played[s] host to countless numbers of good men and women...who think of SA as their second "home".

War has nothing to do with "our" folk.

Oh please. San Antonio's heavily Hispanic population mix has been known for decades by people of all political leanings.

Hahahahahahaha.

For one, I'm not a homer, so I wouldn't bother defending my city if I actually had to. Luckily, I don't have to in this case anyway.

Does this region have issues? Absolutely! What metropolitan area or large city doesn't? But all the doom and gloom stereotypes, and the jokes about the river catching fire are played out, and over done! So, unless you've spent time here, have had a chance to explore the region, it's culture, and what it has to offer... don't knock it until you try it.
I visited Cleveland for a week 2 years ago. Downtown was practically deserted at 6 in the evening. It was really weird. I saw more homeless guys walking around outside than anyone else. The food was pretty solid though. Progressive Field was top notch as well. But I found most of the city to be very run down.

If you can't realize that Miami is more appealing during the basketball season than Cleveland, that's on you.

This is the kind of thing I find fascinating. PPP did a poll to find out who favors which team in the current NBA finals. While Americans overall like the Spurs, Obama supporters favor them by a scant 28-25 margin. Romney voters favor the Spurs by a 37-15 margin, while 'very conservative' people favor the Spurs by an even more lopsided 42-15. Numbers are less than 100%--presumably the rest had no opinion. 42-15 is just under a 3-1 margin.

Speaking for myself, I would call myself very conservative, and am rooting for the Spurs. Part of it goes back to David Robinson, former Spur, former Navy officer, patriot, and all around good guy. Part of it is the idea that the Heat 'jumped the queue' to build their team. I don't know if jumping the queue is a liberal value, but the fact is that for some reason, libs have warmed up to the Heat much more than cons. Anybody have any theories as to why?
It's simple, spurs go "jingle jangle" and heat makes people perspire.

Well, that was prior to the opening of the new casino, and the new convention center. Big difference from 2 years ago. Of course being a mid-sized city it's a good chance it's no different than other cities comparable in size. Most people don't hang out downtown on the weekdays unless there is an Indians game going on. I guess it also depends on the time of year too. Sure Cleveland is gritty in spots, but there definitely has been a lot going on, and a lot of new projects happening in the city. It also boasts one of the fastest growing downtown populations in the midwest. While that population is transient for sure, as it's a lot of 20 and 30 somethings, it's not dead by any means.

As for Miami. I love Florida, but it appeals to me more during the cold weather months. When you get the same humid 90 degree heat up here, there isn't really a need to go to Miami in the summer. I most definitely would be a snow bird if I could. However; if and when that happens it will be years down the road. When it comes to our sports teams, Cleveland is more of a football town first, followed by baseball. Now when we had Lebron, basketball was second, but the Browns were still first...even when we had Lebron.

Casino and convention center or not, it cannot rival Miami's nightlife. Being a midsized city may be an excuse, but the fact remains that downtown Cleveland doesn't have much going on while Miami's nightlife is one of the best in the world.

And guess when basketball is played? The cold weather months. If I were a baseball player, I'd rather play in Cleveland than Miami, but basketball is predominantly a cold weather sport.

Miami might have great night life, but there is more to a city than it's night life. Furthermore, I don't have any hatred for Miami, or Chicago. Miami though when it comes to football season cannot hold a candle to Cleveland!!!! Period!!! As I've said I do have a soft spot for the Dolphins, but when a team like the Browns goes to Miami you see almost as many of the opposing fanbase as you do Dolphins fans.
