actually most research show anorexia is the leading cause of preventable death

Some research suggests that anorexia nervosa has the highest death rate of any psychiatric disorder. According to different studies, the risk for early death is higher for people with the following conditions or characteristics:
•Being younger
•Having bulimia anorexia (twice as high in this group than in the anorexic-restrictor types)
•Being severely low in weight at the time of treatment
•Being sick for more than 6 years
•Having been previously obese
•Having an accompanying severe psychological disorder including personality disorders

Not every disease is communicable.

Once you're so obese that your normal physiology breaks down, you are diseased by definition.

You don't catch alcoholic lever disease either, doesn't mean your liver is any less diseased.

I'm willing to concede some folks may be overweight due to biology but that would be a symptom of an underlying problem not the genesis. If obsesity is a disease then we should see it in areas where there is famine or low calorie intake.

No, that's not how it works. They aren't saying that the cause of obesity is a disease - they're saying that once you are obese, your body essentially doesn't act the way it's supposed to anymore so that being grossly overweight becomes the body's own disease. Being obese fits the definition of a disease model. How you got to be obese is irrelevant for that purpose.

If you never get to that weight, then you'll never get there.
