If you honestly think any Republican in office wants to abolish the IRS you've been duped. The Repubs are bought, sold and owned by special interests every bit as much as the Dems. The IRS is a moneymaker for the people running the gov't.

Anybody? and I mean anybody who has had to deal with the IRS knows they don't care whether you are a Republican or a Democrat, Conservative or Liberal! They will get you!

Congressional Democrats want the IG to appear, and explain why he allowed the nature of the IRS practice to be mis-characterized for so long by the GOP as only targeting conservative "Tea Party" groups for tax exempt scrutiny, when internal records clearly show the practice extended to likely liberal groups activities as well.

With the GOP propaganda wing seizing the issue so fast and so effectively, it may be impossible for the facts to intrude on the settled public perceptions on this issue.

Does go to show that, as effed- up as they are, the GOP is still the boss when it comes to quickly spreading misinformation through its media organs, Fox and talk radio
Suuuuuush! Don't tell them that! It is funny to listen to the whining.

So, you are saying that the ny times is lying, even though they have facts and quotes to back their story? You are demonstrating the human mind, which will reject hard evidence if it counters a held believe, while accepting as true a view even when evidence is scant, when that view is aligned with one's beliefs.

The fact is that the IRS is charged with determining if 503 c4 applicants' engage in political activities, as the code states that those that engage in primarily political activities may not be tax exempt. As such, the IRS must research groups applying. They found that querying the names of groups for keywords is an effective method to narrow the field to investigate. Now we learn that liberal groups were queried too. To the disappointment of Issa, not only doesn't this lead to the Whit House, the IRS was evenhanded. In other words, there is nothing here.

Talking about abolishing the IRS is foolish as we have no effective substitute. Somebody has to collect taxes and audit taxpayers.

Maybe it's time to start up the birth certificate thing again?

When a reputable news source publishes the story, let me know. This is pure NYT/DNC propaganda and spin.

conservatives don't care about reality.

To conservatives everything is propaganda, everything is spin. This story to many conservatives is nothing but the New York Times involved in a massive liberal coverup by all the nation's leading newspapers. conservatives really believe this nonsense.

conservatives are at war with reality itself in so many areas.

There are no conservatives in US governmental politics. The GOP clearly abandoned all conservative principles back sometime between the Vietnam conflict and the beginning of Disco.

The last three Repub POTUSes we've had have been among the LEAST conservative leaders this nation has ever seen.

What we have now, instead, is big government, Big Brother, nanny-state moral watchdog neocons. They are neither socially nor fiscally conservative in any way. People who think they are are either A. comletely duped and deluded or B. have no idea what the term conservative even means.

The Dems are just as bad, but for slightly different reasons.

Indeed, they'll probably even claim that the Wall Street Journal is a liberal news source to rationalize their denial, or engage in vacuous cherry-picking to do so. It's become second-nature to right-wingers that it almost robotic at this point.

Conservative or liberal, this just proves that the IRS is a contemptible organization.

The sad part is that liberals groups would rather rail against conservatives instead of the very IRS that targeted them.

Yes, that's how stupid liberals really are.
