As evidenced by the blatant attempt at voter suppression in Florida this past election, I think SCOTUS made a big mistake.

Al Sharpton has zero credibility. This is a man who has made his living looking for racist bogeymen, often where there are none to be found.

The VRA was intended to be a temporary measure. Now, two generations after the Civil Rights Era, maybe it's time to see if the Southern states don't need the FEC looking over their shoulders every minute.

So how do explain where more blacks vote than white in some of those states?

Way to play into the rhetoric of the disgusting race-baiter.

I cant really blame most white Americans as most white Americans are of German decent. most Germans came here after slavery ended.
Another ignorant assumption. I'm of German descent, and my family was here long before the Civil War.

If you really want to start placing blame, lets go back to the source as tribes in Africa sold off people from other tribes to the white man.

I think it is time we move beyond the 1960's mentality, I could see this if there were no minorities being elected to office in these states where the voting act applied, however, this isn't the case.

Caterstamp, you speak of "voter suppression" is requiring proof of citizenship voter suppression? You have to have an ID to get a check cashed, you have to have an ID to drive a car, but you don't have to have an ID to do the one thing in this country that will impact everyone's lives, VOTE. This i find to be the complete definition of an oxymoron.

Why don't we just open up our national election to a world wide vote, because in perspective that is what you are doing if you allow voting without proof of being a citizen. We will give 11 million illegal people the right to decide "for you" your future.

I think we've seen that they still do. Just as the poster above said about Florida's blatant voter suppression tactics.

No, we're talking about slavery, which ended many many many years prior to anything you just listed.
