Doesn't this seem bizarre to you?

The same State Attorney who initially did not even charge George Zimmerman prosecuted an abused woman for firing a warning shot at her abusive husband.

In Tampa Florida last month, Marissa Alexander, who had never been arrested before, fired a bullet at a wall to scare off her abusive husband when he threatened her. Nobody got hurt, but this month she received a mandatory sentence of 20 years in prison.

Alexander, a black 31-year-old mother, had claimed self-defense, but the judge would not allow Alexander to invoke her "stand your ground" rights. State Attorney Angela Corey, who also is overseeing the prosecution of shooter George Zimmerman in the Trayvon Martin case, says she believes the bullet she fired could have ricocheted and hit any of them. But the gun was fired into the wall away from her husband and his sons.

Her husband had been arrested for domestic violence twice, and convicted once, and Alexander had a protective order on him!

We already went over this several times in other threads about this case and the reasons why.

A search will get you the answers you seek

I saw those threads, and I am not seeking "answers", but discussion, and I am comparing this case to the recent Zimmerman case, in light of what has emerged in that trial.

She had much stronger grounds for self-defense than Zimmerman, including the fact that her husband had previous convictions for domestic violence, unlike Trayvon Martin who was an innocent boy. And yet she was still prosecuted and is going to spend 20 years in prison.

She is black, she is a victim of domestic violence. I think this is a travesty of injustice.

This thread is for discussion and comparison of both cases, because I raised this issue in the Zimmerman thread, and was told it was off-topic, so I am posting my own topic.

I think it is too & it's an excellent case for how screwed up these idiot gun laws. They pick & choose.

Those threads already discussed all that you seek. Why not just continue one of those if you saw them.

She had zero grounds for self defense since she was the sole agressor.

Wow. That is very sad they will send this woman to prison for 20 years. Where's the justice in that?

according to the article it states she had opportunities to minimize the sentence, but stuck with it.

we all know that the system is much harsher on blacks though compared to whites.

Each case is different. Why aren't you paid as much as Sharpton who does the same thing as you. It's old, get some self esteem another way and get over yourself.

She went to prison because she put other peoples lives in danger by firing a ridiculously stupid warning shot.

You never fire warning shots because you are then responsible for where that bullet goes. It puts others at risk. Drywall inside a home will not stop a bullet.

Wrongfully convicting GZ won't help Marissa.
