Hardly surprising that an anti-monarchy group would argue that not to be the case.

Other sources point out how much revenue and how many jobs are generated by monarchy:

"The Royal family generate close to £500 million every year for British tourism with The Tower of London, Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace the most popular Royal destinations."
UK Tourism facts and figures - Telegraph

In addition:

"1. The number of jobs supported by tourism is set to increase by 250,000 between 2010 and 2020, from 2.645 million to 2.899 million. One in twelve jobs in the UK is currently either directly or indirectly supported by tourism.
2. Tourism is the UK’s third highest export earner behind chemicals and financial services, with tourists spending more than £16bn annually and contributing over £3bn to the Exchequer . . ."

Default What Present Should The Obamas Send To The New Royal Baby?

I think a framed and signed photo of Obama holding his Nobel Peace Prize would be a heartwarming gift to hang over the royal crib...and when the first royal tooth comes in a plastic chew toy Winston Churchill bust would be appropriate.

Who cares what the British do? We should worry more about our tolerance of our own government and its spying on us and wasting our money, and our own idiot leaders who prance around like kings and queens and the very expensive vacations they are always taking. Those in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Princess Chelsea Clinton lives in a $10, 000, 000 apartment, better than many royals.

Oh for the love of god. So most of England's famous landmarks would disappear if the monarchy did too?

I guess they make employment by employing boatloads of servants who would otherwise work in service sector jobs.

Many American women care about it. The question is whether the media drives this or if it is just as response to what their consumers want.

This is what stood out to me...

The official figure excludes a number of costs, including round-the-clock security, lavish royal visits and lost revenue from the Duchies of Lancaster and Cornwall.
I am aware that tourists adore The Changing of the Guard and traditional royalty stuff like that, but I do wonder what those excluded costs amount to. It is the idolotry thing that puzzles me because I don't believe that every person perceives the royals as soley a tourist attraction. The idolotry thing exists here too and the subject of this thread was just the perfect example of this universal looniness.

I'm betting the royal family would be thrilled if they never again heard from comrade obama, he has done nothing but insult the crown since he was elected..
