Not all of them. A few hundred will be mgmt type jobs paying near $45K/year from what I read.
But it's literally a sweatshop as many of their warehouses are not air conditioned.
It's hard manual work.
Plus states are giving Amazon huge tax breaks so it might end up a wash as far as revenue.
I did that for a few summers. Worked at a distribution center for Nine West. Some days would be spent entirely in the trailers, and there was no AC in them, so they could be pretty brutal but at 18-22 years of age it didn't bother me too much. I had another warehouse job packing doors to be sent to Home Depot and Lowe's. Same deal; the floor didn't have AC but the break room did. Fortunately I was working last shift (3:30pm-12:00am) so it would get cooler on the floor (the "floor" meaning the area where the assembling and packing was taking place). I hated that particular job, but for other reasons.
Keep in mind, this was around 2001-2003, and both jobs paid $9/hr starting (well above the minimum wage at the time, which I believe was $5.15). I doubt Amazon would pay their employees minimum wage, and I can see a lot of young college kids taking on many of the warehouse positions.
Damn!!!! Irrefutable good news that republicans can't spin against Obama should be against the TOS here in P&OC.
LOL..like Obama has anything to do with Amazon expanding.
More people have been buying online for years now.
And Amazon is one of the most reputable online sellers out there in this day and age of internet scams.
There are few online companies I buy from with my CC. Amazon is one of them and I usually check there first. Plus their prices are cheaper due to low/no overhead.
I have found items that cost up to $50 more at the big box stores and that was their "on sale" price.

Totally agree with you Tex. I live in a small town in the middle of the arizona desert. My choices are WalMart, or Walmart. I buy most my stuff on amazon and I find more items Made In America on amazon than I do in Walmart. cheaper too.
One problem I have with these Amazon positions are they are very experience heavy. I'm sorry but companies need to learn that training employees is the way to go again.

I agree, I don't know what the employee side of Amazon is like but as a customer I have no complaints, I've been particularly pleased with customer service. Bought a piece of digital measuring equipment that had no off switch, was supposed to shut off automatically but didn't. When I called I was given the choice between refund or replacement, I liked the piece so opted for replacement, they next-day-aired it to me at no charge and sent a call-tag to return the defective one, excellent service. I've also been able to find some out of print books thru their associates program at very reasonable prices. From my perspective they deserve to do well.
