Navy can't afford to repair nuclear sub set on fire by civilian worker who wanted to go home early - NY Daily News
After reading more about it, it doesn't sound like this cripples our military readiness.

I guess the Obama admin couldn't find any more menial things to cut that would directly hurt Americans in the worst ways possible.

I would rather see the Navy mothball a few Carrier battle groups and keep more subs on line. Less resources are required, cheaper to maintain and can be very powerful weapons.
But then we would also need to stop playing world cop and mind our own business. Something Neither party seems to be willing to do.

Pretty much. I have a problem with the idea you can crush a tin can just so many times. And now we added heat in as a factor, which can't be gauged in terms of damage.

Who would get on a boat that see's a dozen atmospheres with unknown quality metal?

I like it the guy gets 17 years. I guess that GF will be out of the picture forever .... The real question is can he burn down the Brig and get home early? The real kicker is the courts demanded he pay it back. Once he gets out his life is still dead meat. A living hell, because who will hire him and anything gets for the rest of life belongs to US.

Maybe he will come to the better calling in live, and off his miserable ass. In the mean time he will make a nice wife for some hunk in the can with him. We must always think of the brighter side L

Maybe the defense contractor who was doing the work on the sub should pay? It was their employee who lit the fire after all?

That would make sense, but I'm sure the contractors make enough "donations" to political campaigns to insulate themselves from something like this.
